Hello, I am thinking about adding a scope to my AR-15. I have a carry handle installed already would love to keep both the carry handle and scope on my gun. I have my eyes on EOTech 512.A65 as I saw a picture like this. But I check YouTube and did some googling and no one actually talked about whether I need to buy some extra parts to install the scope like this or I should be fine win the factory accessories?

Can anyone tell me whether it can be mounted directly on carry handle? Or any other scopes you would recommend?

Btw my hand guard don’t have rail and I cannot afford a good handguard with rail for now.

    Appreciated

Your cheek won't be touching the stock tube. Mounting a scope or any sight on top of the carrying handle throws out what ergonomics was there before.

It's a dated mounting system that's obsolete after the flat top receiver came out. You can try it. If you do, look up the cheek pad thingy that's required to position your head to see out the sight.

Good point. Never thought about it.
Can I say maybe the best options here are
    1. Take off the carry handle and replace it with optics (I just like the look of ar15 with carry handle)
    2. Install new handguard with rail on it.

    Appreciated

You'll be the happiest if you go with the standard set up. Flat top upper.

Carrying handles are cheap. I picked up the last one I bought at Army Surplus. It was $25 bucks.

It is a dangerous game you play. A couple weeks ago it started when I got a cheap carry handle. May be pot metal but it was only 15 bucks. I already had a lower stashed so that was covered. I was digging through my spare parts bins and found 2 parts kits with half the stuff in them each. Next stop was palmetto state for a complete upper with bolt for $199 shipped. BAM, another ar to never shoot....

Long story short, keep the ar with iron sights because batteries die and irons are cool.

Buy the eotech and use that as a reason to build another with a flat top. Parts are cheaper then they hav ever been for the lower end stuff.

Wait, you have a flat top upper with one of those screwed on carry handles? Just take that ugly thing off!

I do like the look of the classic upper receivers with the built in handle, but the screw on handles are just silly IMO. If you get a good mount and durable scope, you can just use the scope as the handle

I am afraid my wallet don’t agree with you lol

My carry handle is a police surplus. So hopefully the quality is good. It was cheap for sure.

Man I actually thought about it. These old school scopes seem to be really strong

We are mixing two generations of state-of-the-art technology that now clash.

    Stoner's carry handle on 1960s and 1970s M16 was a influential revolution.
With the basic iron sights it is still a fantastic and functional piece of equipment.

Modern 21st century optics are a huge leap forward in target acquisition and engagement.
An Aimpoint or an ACOG or an EoTech is a marvelous optical device.

To the germane point of this thread.
    Don't combine them.

Carry handle with iron sights or modern optic on a flat-top.

    Final answer:
    You choose.
    Either/or.
    Not both.

For all the pleasure of the modern optical devices I own....my vintage Colt SP1 with it's carry handle is just a primal joy.
My bug-out SHTF weapon in my safe at my "other place" is a Colt M4 14.5" with a vintage carry handle. Batteries not included (nor needed!).
