My gun room is in my basement. When I went to buy a gun safe, it took three of us to get it down the stairs and into my man cave. However, I stopped right there and went to Home Depot and scrounged a good wooden pallet. When I got home, we positioned the pallett, and then we set the safe on it. That way, should a pipe leak or burst, my guns my ammo and my valuable papers won't get damaged. Some boxes of ammo are on the floor of the safe. Ran out of room, lol. And, ain't no way that gun safe is EVER leaving the basement.:banghead:

Not placing the safe on the floor is a bad idea in my opinion.

If I understand it right, it is sitting on a wooden pallet?
If would be easy to get a pry par under it to tip it over
Then it’s just a matter of time to get it open

Once the get the safe in it’s back, it’s all over.
They use the weight of the safe as leverage to defeat the bolts

Like I said... the pallet was simply to keep water from getting into the safe. And, for all you know, what about cameras and security in and around my property. I think elevating the safe makes sense, should the water heater give out. Oh, and my insurance policy will cover loss of property. You secure your safe, I'll secure mine.

    You are absolutely correct sir.
You Safe, your house, your rules!!

I’m just curious , you posted this on the internet and usually when people do that they are prepared for people to make comments and post opinions.
So, I guess you just posted your safe story for us to just read and not reply unless we are in full agreement with you?

If I was that worried about a pipe busting, I would just turn the main house water valve off and run out and turn it on long enough to wash dishes or take a shower.

If you have much in the way of guns in that safe you better make sure you have a "stated vale" of its content or you will be disappointed in what you get from your insurance company with a standard plan.

Those residential security containers can be pretty easily overcome. More of a slowdown than stopping them. Now a real safe will be much harder to breech.

It's down there, so this is a little after the fact. Is it possible to make a form and make an elevated concrete area to bolt it down on? I'm of the opinion a safe is a good deterrent. I think you've done a good job. Just being a Monday morning quarterback. Enjoy your new place

Actually, I've lived in this house for 40 years. Hence, the pallet. My water heater gave out about six years ago.
