I'm still of the belief that MPG should be checked over a whole tanks worth of use for real life mileage.

Has anyone checked the validity of their computer claimed MPG against old school "actual miles driven divided by gallons added" at fill up?
I have found computers to be far more accurate that the hand model.

My F 350, Crewcab, Longbed, over the last 289 mi in San Antonio traffic has given me 16.7 mpg

I don’t know about the newer titans but my 04 needs it. The gearing is too tall. Steep inclines and low rpm will cook that sucker.
Getting stuck in the gumbo around me, and shifting from drive to reverse would most likely do the same.

How do you come to that conclusion?

I’m not saying the computer is terrible, but with only two sets of data to compare what do you weigh against to determine accuracy?

Yes. Actually my 16 computer is more pessimistic than real world results. The computer constants averages about 1.5mpg worse than hand calculation (currently have 70k on truck). My last truck (02) didn't have the computer calculation on it, but it got better mileage than my 16. Actually still does since the son in law is driving it now, even with 570k on it.

Stupid emission stuff. Cleaner emissions but you have to burn more fuel, so emissions per gallon may or may not be a big difference?

I just bought a new to me Expedition EL. Reset trip odometer and MPG, drive whole tank and fill up again, I was nearly what it said, unfortunately. That 5.4 is thirsty. But still better than my 2006 Jeep Rubicon with the 4.0, 12.5 MPG but it has 4:10 gears.

I bought a 94 Silverado, 2wd with the 6.5 Detroit Diesel last year to keep miles off my Jeep. It was nice having a truck but I need SUV type qualities more often than truck. The Expedtion EL hauls all our kids and I don't have to drive the wife's Chrysler Pacifica. I really wanted a 4 door Wrangler but really needed more kid hauling capabilities.

    Following this thread.....

My 2008 F-150 XLT is getting long in the tooth & having small issues popping up. If I have to get a new one soon, I want an SUV that looks & acts like a REAL SUV (4-Runner, Armada, Expedition)....not those bubble-buggy wannabes (BTW, Ford Explorer....WTF?)

My wife wants me to get another truck so we can do yardwork & furniture moving as needed. I told her I can get a trailer for that, but I wanted secure covered interior storage for hauling guns & luggage. She still wants a truck. I told her she can trade her Traverse in for one. So, with the troubles she's had with her car, she might get a truck......probably like her best friend's F-250 4X4.....

    ....gotta love Texas!

My wife drove a truck when I met her. It didn't have power steering, and she had great shoulders and arms.

Rocky Mountains, Pawnee Grasslands, little creeks for fishin, campin' etc. I love it. No humidity, and the hunting and fishing is awesome. Unfortunately, we are are not accepting new pilgrims in these parts. So turn round and and keep going. JK!

I don't see any mention of a truck or vehicle in this post.
    What am I missing?

I've hunted a bit on the western slope. Rugged country over there.

Well...I’m gonna look at dodge. Plenty of good deals on 2018 crew cab 1500 4x4 v8’s. More so than Chevy or ford. I’m not gonna decide for a few months. Working a lot of overtime to help with my move to Bedford. I’m taking 360 from euless to Mansfield and it’s not a bad commute.

I can only personally speak on mid size.

The nissan Frontier is rock solid. Its out date but never once had a problem with my 2015 v6 2wd.

Now have a 2018 Colorado Z71 4wd. Only 10k on it and no problems.

For work Ive had 3 F150's. Current is a 2017 with the 5.0L with 6 speed. No problems.

Might want to look at the Nissan Titan & Titan XD. They’re making some deals on the 2018 and so far this truck I bought just over a month ago got over 10k miles already and I got no complaints so far.

Well guys I got a smaller truck. To my surprise I found the unexpected. Found me a 2016 Chevy Colorado certified pre owned 2.8 duramax with only 33k on it. Driving home on 360 and i got 27mpg after fueling.
