    Hey guys

I’m still awaiting my LTC card. I’ve been doing a lot of driving lately, some in bad areas. Two questions

1.) is it illegal for me to have my gun with me in the car in my bag?

2.) if it’s in a backpack that I usually carry around with me at all times, is that considered unlawful carry?

    This refers to handguns.
Otherwise, your gun needs to be a rifle or shotgun.

Lucas McCain (the rifleman) living in modern day TX. would not have needed a LTC as he carried his Winchester 1892. (even thought it was supposed to be the 1880s) Hide the handgun in the car and just carry a model 1892 44WCF when you are out-and-about in the streets!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tip your hat and just say "Howdy ma'am, Lucas McCain, Glad to know you".

    Helotes!
As Vaquero said, the Texas Motorist Protection Act (HB 1815), effective as of September 1, 2007, permits any law-abiding individual the legal right to carry a concealed handgun inside their motor vehicle in Texas without a LTC (License to Carry), CHL (Concealed Handgun License) or any other permit.

However, you cannot carry a loaded handgun in your backpack under the conditions you described. You could carry a rifle or shotgun that way (or openly), but the latter will probably cause you more attention than you want...

Thanks for the responses so far gentlemen.

One additional question. I don’t like to leave my backpack in my car at work. Can I legally take it in with me? My mind tells me no because it is concealed carry. Right?

You are correct. Not until you get that card in the mail.

I’m sure they did. Just wanted a refresher and clarification. Memory isn’t so good
