This weekend my wife and are celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary. We are staying in McKinney and decided to visit old downtown. One of our stops is Landon Winery. Before heading over to Landon’s I checked the TABC web site to see if they were a 51% establishment. According to the TABC web site they are not.

When we arrive at Landon’s I was a little surprised to find the 51% signs posted in both English and Spanish on the front door. As we are paying for our wine I asked the man at the desk if they recently changed status. Confused, he asked for clarification. I mentioned seeing the signs on the front door. His response was he did not know how they could not be. I pushed for clarification on his statement and he revealed they “recently had an incident “ they did not wish to repeat. I told him that I understood but that he cannot just arbitrarily change his signage.

This was a peaceful exchange and when we finished our business we left quietly. I filed a complaint with he TABC regarding Landon Wine’s signage and I hope to get confirmation one way or the other.

There are legal remedies for this establishment but using an unenforceable sign is not one of them.

They do have a restaurant but they are a winery and the majority of their sales are not are not for on-site consumption. Like a liquor store.

I filed the “complaint” to get clarification from TABC. Maybe they did have a status change and that was my original question to the gentleman behind the counter.

    GPtwins,

Maybe it's a mistake of ignorance rather than anti-gun...maybe.

Yes, maybe but from the conversation that I had with the gentleman, I don’t think it was a mistake. Maybe ignorance. Or maybe they did have a change in classification.

One thing I do know is he was not going to listen to a word I had to say or give me a straight answer to my queries. That is why I asked the source, TABC, for clarification. If Landon’s is in the wrong it is the TABC that needs to inform them as I do not have authority. If Landon’s is in the right then the TABC web site needs to be updated as I have not authority to do that either.

When the gentleman behind the counter admits “there was an incident “ and they did not a repeat of that incident then the correct response is 30.06 and 30.07 signage not an incorrect posting of the 51% sign.

    GPtwins,

    Thanks for your response.

"There was an incident" may be true, but perhaps it's one of those "our insurance company made us post 30.06 signs", when in fact there was no such requirement. Quite possibly a disingenuous bit of b.s. as I've come across this type thing in my own experience when inquiring as to why a business posted 30.06 signage.
It a businesses right to post and it's mine to do business elsewhere.

It'll be very interesting to see what TABC has to say.

    GPTwins,
How did you file a complaint? I need to do the same thing for a place that I frequent. They have 51% sign, but tabc website says they should use blue signage.

I spent some time poking around the tabc website, but all I could find was a way to file a criminal complaint. It appeared to be for selling to minors, selling without a license, and other such stuff. I didn't see an option for wrong signage.

I used the TABC phone app.
