Hell setting the requirements to get ID to the same as getting a passport would be a HUGE step forward. We can’t even do that and you want a full encryption system that allows voting from a personal phone.
Someone can also "find" boxes of ballots in the back of a car. Which system is better, one that cannot be faked or falsed using the power of every computer on the planet working in tandem, or one using plain paper cards in a cardboard box? Voting by personal device would not be required - the device, in fact, becomes completely unimportant. The devices can be completely INsecure, because they're only responsible for transport of information they have no capability of interpreting.Having a "encryption system that allows voting from a personal phone", in my opinion, would devastate the voting system. A lot of people, would simply refuse to do it. We cannot rely completely on computerized systems because somebody, somewhere, can get into it and wreak havoc.
Nothing preventing voting at the polls, nothing preventing a state or even local jurisdiction from enforcing a requirement for that to be the modus operandi either.I my mind making someone go to a location and verify they are who they say they are is a big part of voting. If you can be assed to do that little bit I don’t want you voting to raise my taxes.

I don't know.Which system is better, one that cannot be faked or falsed using the power of every computer on the planet working in tandem, or one using plain paper cards in a cardboard box?
Thank you! That's what I was trying to say!Charlie,
As a veteran Election Judge, I can tell you that ANY computer system can be HACKED & therefore we must PROHIBIT off-site voting & (imo) we need to limit absentee voting for other than the people who CANNOT get to the polls OR members of the Armed Forces OR citizens who are overseas.
yours, satx

Well this better explains it but you are not gonna eliminate voter fraud. We can lower it and we can prosecute more for it but it will always be there. We are back at the National ID thing which is never gonna fly. What you CAN do is create a national standard to vote in which each voter must show an approved state ID and THEN get CA in line. States still have ability to govern themselves with federal law.Not at all what I said. I said you need a national standard Secure ID if you truly want voter fraud stopped. If every state is doing its own thing you’re screwed.
No ID at all for whom? People here illegally? Sure- one that's very clearly marked to signify they have no right to vote, to be employed, or to receive any public assistance until they at least start the process of citizenship.
The other issue is visa holders... they may need a DL while they are here- again, should be very clearly marked with their immigration status, and expire the same time their visa does.
But those things will never happen in states where one of the parties needs their votes... they'll claim it puts a "stigma" on them. That's a social issue, but should not be addressed by breaking a civil issue.
Oh, that is coming. Haven't you been watching American Horror Story?I say we implant everyone with a chip! There, that'll fix it! (sarcasm, in case you needed help in identifying it)
