Lol, I have a raised letter label from an old label gun stuck on the tool box. In a place you can't miss it.

    It reads, "Slow Down".

There's another on the right side of it by a few inches.

    That one reads, "Details".

It's all rushing back to me.

Electroplating was tricky back then and it still is.

I'm going to have to use acid to remove the factory plating on the bolts. Then I either have to find cast iron welding rods (99% nickel) or buy a couple of nickel anodes.

Practice with the copper is going so-so.

    ....

Freaking European countries evidently carry jugs of hydrochloric acid at the store. They're calling it battery acid. Hell, I thought that was sulfuric acid. Pool acid is sulfuric mixed with table salt. Muriatic acid. There isn't hydrochloric at Lowe's.

Muriatic acid is hydrochloric acid. Lowes or Home Depot either one will have it.

Would the concentration of HCl in commonly available muriatic acid be high enough for electroplating?
For the actual plating it would be too strong. He needs it to clean off the factory plating and anything else before he re-plates it. Should be fine for that. If the cleaning is taking too long he can warm it up to increase the chooch factor or just let it sit in the acid longer.
