So with the M9 being retired from active service is there a possibility of them becoming surplus pistols available for purchase to the public? Anyone heard of anything about this?

    Why would you want one?

To be honest I am looking for a cheap beatup M92FS/M9 to practice some gunsmithing on as I don't want to completely strip down one of my current Beretta pistols. I would imagine the condition of most of the military M9's would be such that they would be offered really cheap.

I got an Italian made 92 for $279 + shipping. Right now they are $299. Solid guns, shoot well; mine could use some re-bluing. I updated my M9 to G-model and was going to use the ambi-controls on the older 92, but the internals of the safety are different enough to not work without some machining, and after almost losing the strong-side plunge and spring 5 times.. I decided to return the original controls for now.

I like the idea of getting surplus M9s or better yet, the A1s with the rails as the auto-firing SIGs move into service... I also think the CMP would not release them before our grand-children passed.. :/

20181110_161740.jpg I bought a few of the 92S surplus models from Classic and SOG when they were under $300 shipped. I refinished a couple of the better ones and they look great. I left the worst as it was and carry it often. They run like a sewing machine! They do have the European style safety - different than the 92FS and M9. The 92 is large, but it is one of the softest shooting pistols ever!

DCM sold some surplus 1911 pistols before the '68 GCA. The M9 was officially adopted in '85.

If we have a Republican Government the chances of the M9 pistols being sold through the CMP is much higher than it would be if we have a Democratic Government.

I have a 92s. I like shooting it, but do wish for better sights. I want to replace the slide with one from an M9 or FS to get a taller front blade. I’ll replace the rear with an adjustable.

My brother has an M9, I really like how it shoots. That’s how I discovered that the low profile sight on mine is what makes it harder to shoot.
