Ok, since we are wondering about blue counties, How did Tarrant Co. (Largest traditional red county in TX) go for Beto and ousted State Senator Konni Burton? Yet Harris Co. Went with Cruz?

It was 4000 votes. It wasn't some sort of landslide.. also Abbot toasted the fake Sheriff. I wouldn't worry about next election. Tarrant will stay red.

I hoe so. 4K votes isn't much BUT for red Tarrant Co., it is totally unacceptable. What was Konpni Burton's issue for losing?

View attachment 153476 Anybody know why the blue counties on our border? Is that because of more Mexican immigrants in those counties? What is going on in that area?
Your map shows DFW, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and El Paso as voting Democrat. Williamson county went purple. Keep thinking it's just "Mexicans." You lost the cities, subrubs and women overall.

In 2020 Texas may vote for the Demo Pres. Candidate.

    Zinc,

Given your job stats, what percentage of those jobs are well above minimum wage?

If they're retail and/or a majority of service jobs (think waiters/waitress jobs, etc.) their addition in job percentage stats is...tenuous.

Also, are you implying and I'm not saying you are, I'm asking: Is your 2% unemployment rate a recommendation for a liberal/socialist/commie milieu?

Is that data even available? Found this, but it doesn't answer the question that I could see: https://www.austinchamber.com/blog/10-23-2018-job-growth-unemployment Note: this is for the Austin MSA, which consists of 5 counties, and not for the City of Austin.

Here is a partial answer: https://communityimpact.com/austin/...t-a-concern-to-some-economists-and-officials/ "60% of the job openings require post secondary education"

A few years back I saw a job opening requiring a PhD.

    Annual salary: $29,000

    My point?

Post secondary education is no assurance of a commensurate salary......

One of the guys here (23 years old, but can't remember his name, damn it) just recently complained of having a degree and was pretty bummed he was offered a low salary.

Skilled tradesmen often make a lot more money than many, many highly so-called educated folk.

In times gone by, just having a degree, any degree most often allow you to acquire a fine paying job.

    No longer.

Learn to be a Plumber, or some other skilled trade and you'll make mucho moola, but yeah, you'll have to actually get dirty and sweaty.

But, but I have a degree in P.E. and a minor in women's studies and I just can't find a job anywhere.....

I was trying to answer your question in post #28, "Given your job stats, what percentage of those jobs are well above minimum wage?"

Since the Texas MW of $7.25 per hour equates to $15,080 per year for a 40 hour week, I would say $29,000 at nearly double that is "well above" the minimum, but perhaps you need to be more specific in your definition of "well above".

    AustinN4,

Thanks, but my definition of 'well above' isn't $29,000 a year.

Of course, if one's PhD is in some bogus effort like pottery making, or something else like diversity expert or something akin to such, hell, maybe one's being overpaid at $29,000.....

Or, just remembered it was GilbertC.

This young guy, very likable, was recently looking for a job and was quite disappointed in what he encountered in the job market even with a degree.

To be sure, degrees in a variety of sciences, ditto engineering, medicine (which is of course science too) ) will be make a prospective job seeker much more attractive - not so much if you're degree is simple fraudulent window dressing......

Anyway, sorry, I'm rambling. Is the 2% unemployment due to many being counted when doing minimum wage jobs or ...?

    Thanks!!

The BA of today is the high school graduation of 40 years ago.

The reading level of the average HS graduate is now at 5th grade level. Employers are hoping that someone who attended enough college courses to get a degree is at least reading at a 7th grade level.

This, for sure! Before I retired 20 years ago, we were already having to provide remedial english and math to entry level HS grads. I imagine it is way worse now.

Lots of skilled trades work in Houston and Dallas.

Salaries and cost of living are higher in Texas urban areas than rural, if that is what you are asking.

    Austin,

Were you a member of the teacher's union?

If so, is it true they're a leftist organization or is that a popular misconception?

    Thanks!!

Why would you ask me that? I have never been a member of any union, nor have I ever needed anyone to negotiate on my behalf. I do very good on my own and I pretty much abhor labor unions.

Follow the money! Border towns get cheap labor from across the border. Read the latest (big give away) farm bill passed by congress. University towns are liberal (started in the late 40s). Big welfare cities are blue. Yea, SNAPs and unemployed money is down but that is due to work requirements and actually prosecuting the fraud. Report back here with a state capitol that isn't blue.
