Some pals and I got into the Metallic Shihoutte hobby back in the 80s. NRA Hunters course which meant 100 meters to the Rams and got to have enough gusto left to tump it over. Had a ball. Started out with my trusty old Model 28 SW and rapdily swing over to a Contender in the .357 mag caliber and added a .22 LR barrel for the small targets. I tested the paramters at a hundred yards from a rest one day. The TC could group much tighter than my trusty old mini 14 in a rifle format. Some of the group got into the big boy unlimitred group and stated showing up with pistolized thutty thuttys. 7mm 08 seems to be the ideal round for a good sniper pistol.

Actually, in the pistol configuration, the elbows and wrist, acting as fulcrums make for pleasant shooting.
I've found Trail Boss to also be my friend on the behemoths. The rifle platform doesn't allow for inertia redirection and seems more abusive especially when down on the bench. Standing is preferred.

In the mid 90s our sheriff had almost the exact same setup. My 5 year old self thought it was the coolest thing ever. I asked my Glock-carrying dad what kind of gun it was and he said it was "an old man's show gun." Of course, my dad was the first in the department to carry Glock and he still swears by them.
