You are correct, when you said cheap, I wasn't thinking actual value, I was thinking cheap guns. I reckon there is a difference.
Sorry I wasn’t clear. The sr9 e has surprised me. Excellent value. My third gen blue label rebuild (it has a story) I got for 350 bucks. New 3rdgen frame, new 4th gen finish on slide, new barrel from Glock. Then my sig p226 that I only have 399 into.

Now, just to say I would, I would totally trust my life to a commie surplus gun. 200 dollar mak? Lol you bet.

    Why couldn't you?

I was referring to comparing the volumes and longevity of use. Certainly, for semiautonomous service pistols, Colt, S&W, Sig Sauer, and Beretta have all had their runs in the military and LEO business, but the OP was referring to striker fire pistols. The only real contender against the Glock as far as widely distributed is the M&P, but thats a relative newcomer. We'll see how the P320 deployment goes as it replaces the M9, but this is just the beginning.

I've bought lots of LEO trade-in guns and have never had a issue. Used 3rd gen Smiths and revolvers, used Glocks plus a couple used Sigs.

I'm not saying that there are no turds out there but I've had good luck.

I think there is a difference between a "cheap" gun and an "inexpensive" gun, and for me, it's about value.

LEO Glock trades are typically a very good buy. Assuming the gun has been maintained, and the barrel hasn't seen an inordinate amount of rounds, you can probably rebuild the gun and magazines with all new springs for well under $50 and have great firearm. M&P the same...

Sorta like a date.. personal preference is pretty important.

PLEASE don't take this the wrong way...I am NOT trying to be negative in any way.

I think this can become a tough expectation...wanting a gun to meet all your preferences. I know folks who have built several "custom" homes and every one has some design flaw the owners, who were heavily involved with the builders, ended up disliking over time. Tastes change...shhh...it happens.

We humans change over time...arthritis, muscle strength, flexibility, eyesight, etc. can all affect how a gun fits, feels, and shoots. Guys who swore to never "downshift" to 'wonder nines' suddenly pass over their heavy 1911's for lighter single stack tupperware poppers. Even Clint Smith has bad days...

I made the decision several years ago to go with the Glock platform. It's worked for me, but I had to train on them. I've gotten decent with them, but primarily due to focusing on the specific Glock platform. Sure, I can shoot 1911's, DA/SA pistols, etc., but after several classes and many thousands of rounds in 9MM/.40/.45 through Glock's, Glock is my preferred handgun platform.

They didn't start that way. They are not my nicest handguns, nor my smoothest, nor my prettiest, nor my most accurate. They aren't the most fun to shoot. They aren't the ones I show off to my old military buddies. They're freaking Glock's...plain black, stock triggers, night sights. Some have lights. Plastic holsters...blah!

But they are my most prolific...the ones I can take apart and put back together easy, the ones I can easily stock minimal spare parts and easily maintain. I've bought many magazines replacement springs but never replaced a Glock spring...never had one fail. I used to replace recoil springs at 4K rounds because I read somewhere i should...but I've stopped, because I've honestly never had a Glock malfunction due to a magazine/spring/extractor/ejector problem. Reman ammo caused a kaboom in my G23, which I promptly replaced the barrel with a KKM Precision, because I wanted a supported barrel. That was over 12K rounds ago, and it's been flawless since. And FYI, it's the only Glock barrel I've ever changed.

Bottom line...I recommend you find a good platform you can live with and train to it for a year or more, to include quality training classes (I wholeheartedly recommend Gunsite, but there are many other great trainers out there). There are LOTS of good choices today, from the new M&P, Sig, F&N, Beretta, CZ, Canik, Walther, HK, Springfield (XDm), and Glock. Find one, set up the gun with a good light, holster, and extra magazines, and focus on that single platform for a solid year and 6,000 - 7,000 rounds.

    YMMV. Good luck.

PPQ has the best trigger out of the box. I like they way they feel, too. If I hadn't already put Apex triggers in my two M&Ps I would buy a PPQ.
Glock was cool 30 years ago.
No experience with the CZ listed, so can't offer a qualified opinion.

The number of guns I bought this year that seemed like they would be good for me, but after a few trips to the range.. got re-sold is not a small count. I'm still getting a metal DA/SA SIG here and there but.. if I keep any of them it will be for novelty or ability for friends to see if they like them... I can't operate them reliably so they'll never be in my self defense rotation. I spend A LOT of money I know I shouldn't have to try and find what works for me. Not sure if renting would have saved me much.. I sorta had to live with them.. run a few pistol matches to really know if they were for me. YGMV. Sorta like a date.. personal preference is pretty important.

I know exactly what you're going through.
I got back into guns a little over a year ago, and just had to have a Sig 226 [was my service weapon] Picked up a new one, then had to have a 220 to go with it, grabbed a new 220 carry sas gen 2. Then a 220 Legion, Then a 226 Legion, 938 , 290 320Rx and 365.

While i was collecting all these nice Sigs, i won a gen 4 g19 ... And man was it lite, felt pretty good in my hand and i kept shooting it as i added more Sigs.
Once i bought the 320rx compact , and then put the xcarry grip on it, that was all she wrote for the Glock. Sold it and never looked back.
For a year however, my wife never let me forget that i sold it,and how much she liked it.
So for her birthday this year i bought her a midnight bronze g19.4 .
She loves it, and while handling it i felt a little jealous that i didn't have one for myself.

In the last year i found that i didn't need two 226's and sold one, then went the 220 carry, then the 290, then the 938. Finally the 226 Legion. Down to my 220 Legion and my 320rx xcarry.
Learned that i really like Czs and replaced some of my Sigs with them.
    Sp01 Shadow,75b, sp01 tactical,p07. All wonderful guns...

Then a few weeks ago we went to the Gun show , me looking for another CZ and a set of grip for my SA 1911 RO , Walked out with G19.5 MOS.
My point? I like a lot of guns, Glocks just work for me, and i can't seem to stay away from them.

Before i won that g19.4 , i had knew nothing about them, other than to watch out for that Glock 7...
    YMMV...

I've got my Father's 629 6" and I love shooting it, but I don't think it would make a comfortable concealed carry though!
Come on.. Sledge Hammer pulled it off!

In the transition to polymer guns have you considered the in-between polymer hammer guns?

These days polymers rule, though strikers leave me cold.
I pretty much feel the same as you, but have you tired a PPQ? It really closes the gap between hammer and striker fired guns.

For hammer fired polymer framed guns, I've been a fan of the Sig Pro for awhile now. Not sure what it is about it; I just shoot it very well. Other people who I've let try it shoot it well, too. The CZ SP01 is also quite good. The FNP deserves an honorable mention in this category as well.

And the worst* of the hammer fired poly pistols is the Kel-Tec P11. I mean it's reliable and accurate once you master the 8.5 lbs DAO pull, but the hammer is hidden in the slide and you can't do anything with it other than watch it as you pull the trigger.

*by worst, I mean worst of the acceptable spectrum. not counting utter garbage. The Kel-Tec is a decent pistol.

Cz makes a hell of a hammer fired polymer.
I had the p09 which is incredible, however I wanted something a little smaller and easier to carry.
So I sold that one and bought a P07. Really good shooting gun.
DA/SA trigger , very good trigger i might add, extremely accurate.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone but from everything I have so far concerning polymer and revolver pistols I think I am going to put them both on the back burner for now and revisit them in the future.

In the meantime I will be continuing to expand what I have now with a mint condition mid 1990's CZ-83 that I just purchased and a Wilson Combat Centurion Tactical that I will be getting very soon.
