Been seeing some deals lately and started wondering what the next rifle should be. Been wanting a 7.62/.308 but can't decide between "AR-10" and M1A.

    What are you guy's thoughts?

AR10s are lighter, cheaper, and more accurate, but M1As are fucking cool.

Part of me will ask myself if this is a serious question.

The fact is the AR-10 is the only way to go in this day and age if you want a rifle that you or actually going to use for hunting target shooting plinking and what not.

If you simply want to planker than them what is super cool but history engineering and design has long passed it by

    AR10...my .02.
Not only that once you own the rifle, you can get uppers & change the caliber for a few hundred bucks. 6.5 creedmore would be an example.

It is...and it's not. Mainly depends on the quality of the barrel and major components on the AR10. The M1 is a pretty consistent, known quality, since all new M1A's are made by Springfield Armory.

AR10's are NOT all the same...not by a long shot...(pun intended)

That is true. The M1As made by Springfield Armory are a known quantity.

That said, a decent AR-10 with a decent Barrel should outshoot and be as if not more reliable than an M1A any day of the week. They will also be much more versatile which is extremely important to me since I routinely swap out Day sights for night sights and thermal sights and Red Dot sights depending on what I'm doing with my rifle

Think about how hard it is to make a M14 or M1A accurate and keep it that way. I believe that was one of the major issues with the M14 sniper rifle. It took a lot of Maintenance and specialized support to keep the rifle shooting accurately. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this
