    Gunz are icky.
    Nouakchott, Mauritana to Lagos, Nigeria.
    On foot.
You can have two firearms, available at the time, as your weapons and for taking game to eat.
You are allowed 1200rds of ammo total.
You already have a team of porters for carrying gear. You will need to feed them.

What would your firearm choices be?
    Lynx Defense

Great hypothetical question for a specific era. Would like to see more of these but I know just a little about weapons from this time. Looking over the responses and doing a little quick research I would select these: Model 94 Winchester in 30-30 & Colt 1911

You're going to get stomped or eaten. .30-30 isn't much good on heavy African game.

There was a guy on the internet like 10 years ago asking if a mosin was going to be good for hunting hippos.. YES HIPPOS... 7.62 x 54R isn't a big enough caliber to kill rhinos or hippos, but it should be large enough to take down any other animal in Africa.. THAT BEING SAID.... its a 459 hour walk.. That's 19.125 days of walking.

Much of it in the Sahel ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sahel ) and Savannah ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savanna ) With the rest being in the sub tropical rain forest.... So what is the biggest threat? Man, Hippos, Gorillas? No... It's these things.

Malaria carrying mosquitos... in 1921 you're probably going to die of Malaria more than a hippo, lion, or any other mammals. Also your path (luckily) doesn't cross the Nile or any other major rivers, so no worry about crocs.

Lion, tigers and leopards, can be hard to stop with a "normal" rifle. If they are coming at you, then you need to KILL them.

Hippos in ANY body of water are very dangerous.

Malaria isn't going to get you in 10 days by your math. I'm still trying to figure out how 459 hours = 10 days, 24 hours per day. Texas educational system failure?

No it's the failure of alcohol and sleep deprivation.. it's 21 days. My brain said 48 hours was in a day because i've been up almost that long.

There I edited the original post just for you :-p I need to get up your way so you can teach me how to reload.

Still not 21 days unless you're traveling 22 hours a day. More like a 50 day walk. That close to the equator you only get around 12 hours of light. Walking through dark Africa in 1921 at night would not be pleasant. You've also got to make camp and break camp, take time to hunt fresh meat, find water....If you could manage 8 hours of walking per day you'd be doing damn good. At 8 hours of walking per day it would be 56 days. Cut it to 7 hours per day and you would be looking at 65 days.

Realistically I think one would have to budget 70 days.

1030 miles in 110 days for the first group. That's under 10 miles per day. Even wagon trains could only make 1-2 mph, or around 14 miles per day.
