    So... eerie story.

I had a meeting with my counterpart and boss Monday in Big Spring. Boss said to meet at McAlister's Deli for lunch. I made it there before either one showed up, so I grabbed a seat outside on the patio to bask in the sun. My counterpart showed up and we sat there talking and enjoying the warmth of the day. During our discussions a motorcycle came rolling up and found himself a park. As the rider came walking up to the door I acknowledged him and nodded, he responded with a "how you fellas doing?" I looked back and said "Doing good. Pretty day to be riding that thing" he responded back with a smile "any day is a good day!" I just chuckled and the guy went inside. Boss showed up a few minutes later and we wen't in and ordered. The rider was sitting a few tables down from us and having lunch with some folks he met there.

We finished lunch and meeting and I headed back North towards Snyder on hwy 350. Made it out about 7 miles when I came up to a wreck. Hwy was shut down. Waited 10mins before DPS let us through. As I passed by... there was a motorcycle crashed in the ditch. It was mangled up badly... but it looked just like the same bike I saw at the deli. I thought to myself... "there's no way..."

My counterpart just texted me and said that rider died.

Just goes to show ya.... you don't know when your card is gonna get pulled. I have thought about it a lot.... it kinda freaked me out. THAT day was NOT a good day to ride.

    Sad story.

I'm so very sorry to read of this tragedy.

I rode a little 3 speed, ring ding, 5 hp Vespa in High School, later moved up to a Honda 450 CB with an overhead cam, nothing bigger though like many, I really wanted a Harley, but by the time I could afford one, I'd lost my interest in riding motorcycles. I'd had one too many close calls......and I always wore a helmet as looking cool was less appealing than being dead or severely brain damaged.

That being stated, lots of MD's call em 'donor cycles' for a reason....

Technology hasn't made the roads safer. I doubt I'll ever ride another road bike. Cell phones and peoples driving habits make it too risky.

Dang...just never know when your card will be pulled.

I had so many close calls when I rode from other idiot drivers. I used to live off 1960 in Spring... had so many people pull out in front of me over the years.

Was the guy in his 60's riding a Victory?

Hmm, I hate stories like that. You never know in this world we live in. The Indians had a saying - today would be a good day to die. My closest was bleeding profusely in an ambulance. I knew I was messed up and I was ok with going. I woke up the next day in a hospital bed and the EMT who I knew from runs stated - I'd never seen someone bleed so much and live. I learned a lot during a year long recovery.

People can poo poo all they want but the good news is there is a Savior and I have a personal relationship with Him. Only two types of people in this world.

They lived in a different time and structure. I have 3 kids to raise. I don't have a whole tribe to raise them if I get 86'ed. Just my wife. So.... that is a bad saying in 2019.

It is all about perspective. From the way you see it, no time is ever a good time to die. My perspective is to have your affairs in order and live like today might be your last. I don't always do that but something we can all strive for. My preference is to go quick and unexpected.
