He's playing it all wrong. He wussed out and didn't put his foot down. He obviously needs to start demanding she make him some sammiches and tell her to STFU at the very least. If he really wants her to stay, he needs to start slapping her around some (that was the running joke at the PD).

Either they look at me and decide not to start yapping, or East Texas is really free of that vermin. Regardless, in 25+ years, I've only heard a handful of Liberal pukes open up around me. I'm not courteous and don't try to reason with them. I tell them to shut the F up and get away from me!

I get her point about a baby/child in the house... BUT... she might want to ask somebody how did folks cope with guns in the house back in the day?? I grew up with guns in our house and had one put in my hands at the tender age of 8, who really cares why?? Why didn't I go on a shooting rampage, shooting and/or killing everything in sight?? Why didn't I stick it in my mouth and pull the trigger?? Why didn't I bring it to school or the playground and act out on my revenge aggression toward my friends that pissed me off that day?? Or my own family members, for that matter?? WHY?? Anyone here care to answer??

I don’t. If the firearm is properly stored (and I understand it is), there is no issue. It’s an emotional argument, not a logical one.

In fact, her entire argument is emotional, not logical.

I do not sense a long and prosperous relationship for this couple as she acknowledges compromise is part of marriage however, her last sentence clearly indicates she’s not willing to compromise on her long term goal.

As to why you didn’t do any of the things you mentioned, it’s irrelevant.

If that's so, then what point is she trying to make? I guess I must have missed it.

The point she’s trying to make is that she doesn’t want a gun in the house.

The reason I said the ‘why’ questions are irrelevant is because the poster was asking us why he had no history of such behaviors.

Well, I got that she doesn't want a gun in the house with a baby also in the house- there's a difference and that's why I asked all my questions (rhetorical for those with an understanding of why I asked them).
    In a nutshell, she's saying:
Gun in house + baby in house = Bad things are bound to happen. (Apparently, she was ok with a gun in the house BEFORE a baby was added to the marriage menu)
I'm countering that assumption by my mere existence and existence of all my family members, despite guns in the house where we all grew up and asking questions as to how/why that could be- completely relevant questions, given my take on her article.

Her talk about growing up with guns is a bunch of crap. If she had either she didn't have parents that taught her about guns or she was against them then. I believe she painted herself as someone that is pro gun to give herself the narrative to point out that pro gun people are for gun control.

    Fair enough.

I look around everyday and know hundreds of millions of firearms peacefully exist in American homes. If there was a correlation between guns in homes and ‘bad things happening’, we’d see a lot more people dead from gun-related reasons. Like orders of magnitude more.

While I recognize the rhetorical, her argument is not logic based, it’s emotion based.

I knew you'd get it, eventually. Lol
I agree completely with your guns/homes comment as well (and why I posed my questions for those who claim otherwise)
My concern is not whether her point/argument is logical or emotional- rather, whether it's based on facts. She tries to make it sound like guns/babies-children in the home = bad things will happen, by presenting stats regarding such incidents (the important point to note- the details of each of the incidents is being overlooked in favor of just presenting a number/percentage in an attempt to throw opinion weight in her favor). Most folks confuse statistics with hard facts. Statistics use factual info to form a basis for probability of reaching a certain outcome and are often presented as facts when arguing a point, though they are not. Most times, statisitics don't completely factually represent the data they claim to represent, either- the data is manipulated or otherwise spun to fit the agenda the data is presented for. So... I'm also hoping you can understand how much stock I put into stats/studies as basis for forming an opinion.

Ironically, I had a dream about this last night.

I went to the doctor for some reason that I don't recall. The first question he asked was if I owned a gun. I replied: "Yes." Every question that followed had the same theme...… "Did I have suicidal thoughts? Did I want to climb a tower and shoot people? Did I want to shoot up a shopping mall or a school?

I stopped him in mid sentence and cut loose! The language I used was bad even by my standards. I called him a stupid F'ing Liberal and the rest of the rant would get me banned from the most lax forum behavior standards on the Internet!

That dream is still fresh on my mind and frankly, I didn't know that my hatred of the Liberal line was so strong! I'm not going to walk around on Tip Toes about this, but knowing that venom is inside me was a real shock!

I awoke from that sleep before I saw the end of the rant. I'd like to think that I could resolve a conflict better than that. Still, I gotta admit, it felt really great to unload on that Liberal pest!
