All I know is threads like this make me want to buy more guns.

Now, I'm rethinking of a new10 shot .22 caliber revolver, but high quality comes with a high price....damn.

If only I could get back that 9 shot High Standard from my starter wife.....who's probably sold it.

    That’s what I meant in post 51.

That "woosh" sound was that comment going right over my head. lol

I didn't realize they were two different guns. I had it in my mind they are the same thing. I had a chance to to buy the automag way back when for $500. So I made some cases for it from 308 cases, then could not come up with the cash to buy it. Think my son broke his arm or something big like that.

I understand ruger w/a ruger but personally i believe the 629 wins hands down over the redhawk. They're just a better made gun. Smith has a plethora of new 629 variants available. If it was me I'd try to find a used 3 or 4 incher without the "hillary hole".....or maybe a 329PD . Just my .02.

Welcome to the forum but I have a feeling your name indicates a slight bias on your end. ;)

And I am good on the 329PD. That sounds horrible. :o

I’m pretty sure its the regular 44 magnum, because I remember reading somewhere that’s what enables them to run the 50 ae on the same pistol frame. The 2 rims are approximately the same size.
True. The rims are the same size. Only things needed to swap between 44 mag and 50ae on the DE is barrel and magazine. If you go 357 you need a new bolt.

Thanks. The 329PD is definitely a "carry often, shoot seldom" offering. Absolutely no bias here . I knew that name would get me in trouble. Rugers are great. I might even own a few (cough cough) but, for some reason (mostly aesthetically) I was never a big fan of the redhawk.

Hey, I love a Smith wheelgun as much as the next guy; however, to allege that the Ruger revolvers aren't as well-made is malarky IMHO.

I've always liked SA revolvers and a Ruger super Blackhawk in 44 mag with a 7.5 inch barrel minimum has always been my dream gun. Though I would take a freedom arms over a Ruger if I could afford it.

Depends on what winning hands down means to you.

I have a S&W prelock Trail Boss. It is indeed a fine 3” .44 magnum and shoots like a dream.

I would not even dream about loading the cylinders with the stuff I load for hunting for my Super Red Hawks. The Smith would disintegrate at the molecular level.

The triggers on the SRH will smooth out, you just have to shoot enough to make it happen.;)

    Yes to all that.

My first GP100 had a wonderful trigger and even S&W fans couldn't believe how nice it was.

My secret? A lot of rounds through it. A lot of dry fire too. Thousands of cycles on it.

    Absolutely.

If it just sits in the safe until you go to the range it will never get smooth .
