WASHINGTON — Residents here who buy a gun to keep legally at home, now that the Supreme Court has overturned the city’s ban on handguns, will find that a bureaucratic maze leads them to an unmarked door on Good Hope Road Southeast where Charles W. Sykes Jr. does business.

Mr. Sykes does not sell guns, but on Tuesday he is expected to become the only federally licensed dealer in Washington to serve as the transfer agent for the carefully controlled transactions that will put guns in the hands of district residents.

There are no gun stores here, and a resident who buys a gun elsewhere must have the weapon shipped to a licensed dealer in the district. Mr. Sykes’s permit will allow him to receive the weapon and, for a transaction fee of $125, he will ensure that the requisite paperwork is prepared for approval by federal and district officials before handing over the weapon to its new owner.

It really shouldn't surprise anyone that DC is basically doing everything possible to resist allowing civilian gun ownership. What should anger people is that despite the will of the people, and the indisputable ruling of the Supreme Court, the city of DC is still choosing to completely ignore the will of the people and the LAW. Wars have been started over less.

The D.C. is going to do anything and everything to drag the NRA through hoops and over hurdles while endangering the lives of it's citizens and pissing on the constitution and the Supreme Court.

Wouldn't this qualify for the pro bono program? The litigant couldn't be too poor, ie: they must have enough disposable income to purchase a gun.

The American Bar Association (ABA) has become a national leader in the effort to enhance pro bono legal services. The ABA Center for Pro Bono assists ABA members and the legal community in developing and supporting effective pro bono legal services in civil matters as part of the profession's effort to ensure access to legal representation and the justice system. The center helps create, design, and implement pro bono programs. It sponsors an annual conference for bar leaders, pro bono program managers, legal service staff, and others involved in the delivery of pro bono legal services to poor people.

"The D.C. is going to do anything and everything to drag the NRA through hoops and over hurdles"

Let's get one thing strait first - the NRA attempted to keep this from going to court, THEN after the snowball had already started rolling, they gave a token amount of money and tried to lead the parade they originally attempted to rain on.....

As fas as DC goes, they are blatenly breaking the law. I would be willing to bet a federal reserve note that no steps will be taken to bring any offenders to justice. The fedgov machine will not eat it's own over re-arming the peasants.
