Hey guys now that my wife, and I are debt free I'm going to start saving up for a lever action. I plan on going for a marlin 336 Pre remington. Now I'm wondering if the quality has come up on the new manufacture "remlins" does anyone have any experiance?

Quality is still garbage compared to the JM stamped Marlins. My friend has a 336 (bought new in 2017) and it has gone back to Remington twice. Once for

Might be worth your time and money to hold out for a good used JM off of texas gun trader. They usually go for 350-500 from what I have seen. Not sure where you are at but here are two from dallas:

Sounds like a good price spread. I took my old Winni to the LGS just clowning around a couple of years ago..and the guy said any old Winnie or JM n half decent shape could fetch 400 on most occasions.

I have heard numerous stories of people having issues with new Marlins. Some can be fixed easily, some had to be sent back to the factory (sometimes multiple times) to get fixed. Some didn't get fixed period.

I have even heard of a 45-70 being sold with half of it's rifling missing.

My advice? Buy a JM stamped Marlin and enjoy a well made gun.

The biggest complaint I've heard recently is some people getting one with canted sights. If buying local, that would be pretty easy to check.

I have heard that the quality these days is MUCH better than it used to be after the Remington takeover.

I have bought 3 Remlins in the last few years. The secret is to check each one out prior to purchase. Inspect it, make sure the sights aren’t canted, the wood furniture mates up nicely, and there are no blemishes on the metal. Work the action and trigger. If they aren’t fairly smooth in the store, put it down and ask to see another one. Most LGS’s know what you’re doing, because they did the same thing when they came in.

Bottom Line, I’d never buy a Remlin online. Always lay your hands on it first.

Get the real thing. They are not that pricey
That sorta surprised me. Who woulda guessed a person could buy an old Marlin for about the same price as a new one? Society ain’t evolving its devolving. Go grab a new Winnie Cowboy gun and see what kinda dent that puts in the Onyx Visor Card. Apparently they know what’s up over there. lol

I'd have no problem buying a used Marlin 30-30 as long as I can inspect and pay a fair price.
Price is established by the current market and that is below what a new one goes for.

maybe because of the growth of CAS and the market increase that it brings to the line?
Remington is always $100 more than same in Winchester
Winchester is always $100 more than same in Marlin
It's a matter of perceived value
    Efficient marketing... I dunno?

I've had a blistering hangnail for a pistol caliber lever action carbine for a bit. Rossi 92? Remlin? Jap Winchester?

I'm a fan of old Marlins but Henry has really stepped up it's game.
My opinion old is generally better than new
and cheaper (unless it's gained collector's status)
