Which is the better 9mm; XDs mod 1 or mod 2. I held the mod 1 and I really like it, but I heard they were all recalled a while back. Has that been completely fixed by now or should I consider the mod 2?

I'm pretty sure the roll pin on the grip in front of the grip safety is evidence of the new design after the recall. Both mod 1 and mod 2 are great guns. I personally like the mod 2 better. The mod 1 grip texture dug into my fingers on my firing hand. Talon grips solved the issue for me. I, personally, never could shoot that gun particularly well though. Mine had a trigger pull of 8lbs.

Nothing that a little range time couldn't solve.

The firearms are the same, comes down to personal preference over Grip and sights; or if you’re like me and already have night sights and prp trigger components and springs on your bi-tone XDS .45 3.3, then there is no contest.

How heavy is the mod 2 trigger?

I have an original XDs with the unmodified trigger. Honestly, the "recall" was overhyped, and I just wasn't bothered.

It may be a factor if I ever try to sell it, but since I don't part with my firearms, again I'm not bothered.

Go to a gun store or show and handle both. Whichever feels better, buy that one.

    Cheers! M2

As long as doesn’t say “Grip Zone” you’re good to go.

    Meaning?

If you get hung up on the “Grip Zone” logo, do you have all the other branding crap removed from your clothes? Vehicles? Other stuff?

The Mod 2 XD lines are solid striker guns.

I have a Mod1 XDs 9mm 3.3" and have had zero issues with it... EXCEPT I did find that it doesn't like Hornady Critical Defense ammo as the polymer tip tends to get hung up on the feed ramp occasionally. Runs HST and all other FMJ ammo like a dream though.
    Mine is a post-recall model.
I have been eyeing up the new Mod2 model. My only complaint is that the single stack grip is a bit small for my hand and therefore I don't shoot it as accurately as my other double-stacks. At least that's my thinking... I'm wondering if the Mod2 grip would be a better "fit" for me? I think the new Point Shoot Blank range that just opened in Cypress has one in their rental counter that I want to try out.

I agree. When the mod 2 guns first came out I didn't own an XD and I laughed at the "grip zone." I initially said I'd never buy an XD with such stupid labeling. Then I shot one...and i now own 4 XD's. I've shot with many people who start the range day laughing at a springfield pistol then change their tone after shooting one.

Springfield certainly does listen to their customers, as they have begun removing that label from their newest pistols. If I had the choice, I would have the newest "blank grip" mod.2 but it really doesn't bother me either way. Plus it's better than the "fires without magazine," "read owner's manual before use." I have an LCP that literally says, "BEFORE USING GUN-READ WARNINGS IN INSTRUCTION MANUAL-AVAILABLE FREE-FROM STURM, RUGER AND CO., INC. PRESCOTT, AZ USA." They probably could've put the warnings on the gun in less words.
