    Nobody has mentioned Redfield.

They're binoculars are nice. I've never owned one of their scopes. You'd figure there'd be a Redfield fan lurking the board. Letting us know what's up.

My first dear gun, a .243, has a Redfield variable power. Can't remember the objective size. It's fine, not great. I don't know the model or where it falls in the spectrum of their lineup. My $150 Vortex rimfire seems better.

Redfield has been made by Leupold for a few years now. I believe they carry Leupold's warranty and quality now.

That being said I don't follow their product line at all.

I'm quite happy with my Leupold VX-R patrol 3-9x40. It has a mil reticle and low knobs that don't get in the way. It is around $600 with no sales. That leaves room on the table for nice rings (30mm) to keep your $800 budget.

He might be able to get a NightForce SHV if there happens to be a Black Friday sale.

$873 normal price for the 3-10×42 model.

I have a buddy I work with. He is getting ready to buy a Savage Stealth. He asked me for a scope recommendation for $800 max. That puts him in the Burris range IMHO. But that's all I know. I'm not very familiar with the other brands. I highly value ya'lls opinion. What would ya'll choose at $800?

He's going to want a BDC reticle. He will not be shooting dope.
MOA or MILS. It doesn't matter.
    It's for a 6.5CM

    Thank you
Vortex & Sig Sauer are great options. Both have great value for the price and glass that is better than Nikon and Leupold. Both also have lifetime warranties.

I recently bought an Athlon Argos BTR 8-34x56 rifle scope for $360. For my choices of reasonably priced scopes I have been a big fan of Vortex, but recently I had heard a lot about Athlon. Now I know that many will jump on the fact that it's made in China, but after reading a lot of reviews and doing a bit of research, I decided that for $360 I would give it a try.

To be honest, I'm quite impressed with the Athlon's performance. With the many Vortex scopes I have one difference I can tell is there is a greenish hue with the Vortex that I don't see with the Athlon, not to say that that is good or bad, just that it's noticeable. The clarity is every bit on par with the Vortex, even the Viper. I put it on it's strongest power and even then, at least at 200 yards, it's seemed very clear and quite easily able to count the holes in the target I made with my 22-250.

Now I'm not trying to put down Vortex, I still like them quite well, but the size of this Athlon scope could have easily costed twice as much had I gone with Vortex.
