"We would like to remind people that it is an offence to distribute or possess an objectionable publication..:

I don't get what countries that have laws like this think they are actually stopping? Do they think what they find objectionable originates in a magazine or on video? No! It originates in the minds of people. Pass all the laws you want if it makes you feel good, but damn if they can change the nature of certain individuals by doing so.

    Nope.

Just curious as to what forms of censorship intended to protect victims and potential victims is acceptable. No intent to squelch the discussion.

    Yep

The fact you brought it up in a thread involving about Freedom of Speech, ipso facto. If you really were just "curious as to what forms of censorship intended to protect victims and potential victims is acceptable" you could have just asked that.

    Godwin's Law:

As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1.

    Godwin's Freedom of Speech corollary:

As an online discussion about Freedom of Speech grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Kiddie Porn approaches 1.

My post was about the efficacy of laws on the minds of people, my personal opinion on child pornography is not germane to what I posted.

Kiddie porn is a corollary to Godwin's Law.
By coincidence, I just posted something in another thread about moral panics and sex offenders. But you have a valid point. The mere mention of that media brings rational discussion to a screeching halt.

<Paragraph snipped because while normal thread drift can be OK, in this case there can only be horrible, explosive derailment.>

Took the police a long time to get there apparently. Twelve minutes and no response.

But we all know that citizens don't need guns for protection, only the police need guns...
Luckily a citizen had a firearm and used it to shoot back at the killers. Who decided that a two front firefight isn't what they wanted. Somehow the media misses that.

I didn't read the whole lot but my attention was drawn to this passage, by the retailer who sold the bellend the firearms:

It’s actually a worthy discussion IMO.

I feel NZ is completely wrong for censoring the vid although I have no interest in watching people die at the hands of a psychotic individual bent on fracturing and destroying the free world. Just not something I have any motivation to witness.

At the same time, I fully agree that under pretty much every circumstance kiddie porn should be illegal.

All of my justifications for one could be applied to the other. But my opinion on either remains unchanged. Will have to keep thinking on this one.
