Sometimes I'll carry around the house in my OWB holster and then go to corner store with it because I don't feel like changing to my IWB.

Last time I went though, there were a few people around and I felt like I really had to keep looking around as I was waiting in line in case someone wanted to take it.

I think I'll just stop being lazy and switch my holsters next time.

Not a big deal, I position myself where it would be difficult to take, and also put my arm down next to the gun.

I ask this not as a challange to you, but as a serious question. Have you any weapon retention training?
Good point. When I do OC, it is in a retention holster. I have had some retention training but it was awhile ago. Knife in non dominant hand should solve the problem.

Retention training is not part of any LTC class.
It is techniques to retain your handgun should someone attempt to take it. As a person who has had multiple training classes in retention, trust me when I saw that when a person grabs for your holstered handing all of your belief in your Ninja skills goes out the window.

No matter how you imagine you will keep a hold of that gun, without training you will probably lose it. With OC a retention holster is a must.
Being aware of your surroundings is important, but not enough.

That's assuming it's all that easy to take someone else's gun. The holster I have is canted forward and is difficult to pull the gun unless it's toward the cant. With my arm against the gun as stated it would also alert me. Furthermore, as I said, I position myself to where taking the gun would be harder without me knowing. Nothing ninja about it, awareness is the best deterrent.

I'm not saying training is a bad thing, but I am aware while open carrying. I imagine that to those that are unaware it may be easy, but if I'm taking precautions against it, I don't see how I'm making it easy.

I open carry mainly out of convenience. I don't have to mess with clothing to draw it and it's more comfortable to me. I don't open carry to be macho or cool and I prefer it when people don't notice. I'm not against those that are against open carry or those that believe they may need to have more training first. The law doesn't tell me I need to have training for all the "what if" scenarios while open carrying, so I tend to rely more on common sense. I am more aware of my surroundings when I do open carry, and I take that as a good thing.

That being said, I do at times conceal carry, depends on the situation and weather.

I'm sure if there was a big problem with people getting guns taken or being shot because of open carry the laws would be different. Of course I mainly live in an area where people don't get hysterical at the sight of a gun, so that probably helps. To each their own, just don't try to discourage those that want to exercise their rights.

Anyone knowledgeable of Texas Code Chapter 411 Sub chapter H, knows there is no level of retention required by law in Texas.

When asked for my opinion.......I strongly suggest using a level II for open carry......

I have no problem with 'strongly suggest', but 'must', yeah, I do have a problem with 'must.

Whoever you may be, don't 'must me' about anything, unless you have a law showing/stating 'I must'.

Otherwise make it clear your 'must' is your 'opinion' and not 'law'.

Personally no longer bulletproof due to age, feel much more comfortable doing just that.
Might be just a wee touch of accumulated wisdom in there too ... don't take much.
