I saw a S&W .22 cal “Victory” pistol that had a threaded barrel. Hmmm. Was considering buying it for steel challenge but then we found our mislaid Browning Buckmark and we just used that instead. But the threaded barrel did pique my interest.

I've got a Victory, great host.
Comes with a rail for an RDS, Vortex Venom is a great fit.

So. You kind of buy a suppressor for a specific caliber of firearm,
not for a specific make/ model of a particular firearm, right?

So I could buy a 9 mm suppressor, and that could theoretically fit all my 9mm firearms, just provided I obtain a threaded barrel for that firearm I want to attach it to? Do I seem to have it understood correctly? (I need a suppressor 101 class.)
    Yep--you understand correctly.

It sounds like this can get expensive quick if sights have to get changed out.
It can . . . but so is boat ownership. ;)

One of the things a lot of folks do is to have some firearms that are dedicated to being used with a suppressor and others that aren't. When one gets into owning suppressors, they begin directing their future firearm purchases with that use in mind. And that can simplify the sights/threaded barrel situation because you can often buy your pistol already equipped with those things. Or you can purchase your rifles with threaded barrels from the factory. There's no need to go backwards and retrofit your existing inventory unless you want to do so.

Some may disagree, but I see no need for "supressor-height" sights on a pistol - even if the sights don't clear the can, you just sight "through" it.

May sound a bit odd, but after a little practice you likely won't even notice it...

Have you priced cans yet? Don’t forget Uncle Sam’s $200 admission price.

They’re are fun, but boy do they get pricey fast.
No, I have not. Our money is probably put to better use elsewhere, sigh. I would like to dream that I will start my home ownership journey before I’m fifty, and spending money on stuff like that isn’t going to help matters any.

I do most of my shooting at an indoor range, so I rarely use my suppressors. If I shot outdoors more, I might use them more.

If you have other people shooting though, you still need to use hearing protection, so it's kind of wasted having them.
    Just my opinion...

I do think a suppressor would be handy in a home defense situation. I would imagine that people who have to use their weapons inside to protect themselves suffer significant hearing damage.

Absolutely, of course this means having the suppressor attached at all times to the HD weapon.

I keep electronic ear muffs in the table beside the bed with my bedside gun for that reason.
I don't have enough suppressors to have one on every gun I have stashed around the house.

I wish more people would shoot suppressed, especially indoors. I haven't quite eliminated that flinch when someone else shoots. Me, I'm good - others, I jump for about the first 10 minutes.

Obviously, but what are the odds in that...

Sooooo... for every 1-2 million suppressors, one is used for mass shootings.

I can see how banning suppressors could impact murder rates

Maybe I need one. Not sure what I would put it on, or how that all works. I’d have to get a threaded barrel, also, right?
    Total silencer noob here.
Can the same silencer fit on different firearms?
For handguns, you need a threaded barrel (cheap an easy to swap). It can with adapters. As long as the suppressor is made for a larger or equal caliber than the gun you’re using it on.
