Just arrived, bought the deal I posted for $299 (site said $749 msrp).

    Looks like it’s been discontinued.
Figured it’s an affordable way to get Vortex’s best glass.

Not sure what I’m gonna put it on, but now that I have an extra optic I suppose I need to buy/build a new rifle

    Edit:
If you were to build a rifle around this glass, what would it be?

With the power of the scope I'd say a 200yard type rifle. Not sure what's in your arsenal already. If you dont have a 300blk yet maybe you now have a reason for one.

Several 5.56 (mostly dot, one with 1-6 Steiner)

Two 22LR (overkill for this plus they have good glass)

One 6.5CM (has Vortex 4-16 on there now, Diamondback not Razor HD)

    One 300BLK (red dot)

Springfield Saint is a tack-driver with a 1-4 Steiner, I might put this on it then build something around the Steiner.

    I love mindfucking this stuff

You could sight it in for one of the red dot builds you currently have, then when you need some magnification it would already be set up for that rifle. Just a thought if you have not decided on a NEW weapon to put it on. That way you dont feel like its sitting around not being used.

I have a 2-10 LH and the glass is amazing.

If I had a dedicated hunting rifle that's where it would be. Have it on the AR it came with now but probably not it's permanent home.

I’m really looking at Tikka 6.5 CM...my other 6.5 is also an AR, would be a good combo in this caliber

I’ll see what kinda deals come by...I’m cheap and in no hurry LOL

Well, I've found, for me anyway, I need a bit thicker glass the further I go out.

I think you might be right, my eyes surprisingly aren’t getting better as I get older.

I’m super OCD and am going to obsess over this decision until I jump onto something, as if it’s the last gun I’m ever gonna buy LOL

By thicker I assume you mean more magnification?

If so better glass trumps more magnification.

It does drive the price up though.
Yes, I meant magnification and I'm not going to argue which is better, just that I like to see where I hit as well as what.

I’m really curious to see how this new 1-8 scope compares side-by-side to my 4-16 Diamondback.

The Diamondback has a more magnification, but this one has better glass.

It may be a wash since the Diamondback doesn't have bad glass.

You are gonna have to look far to really see the difference though.

probably like cars where if you want to go faster you have to pay a lot more for a marginal improvement. like pay double on the scope to get a little better glass. so many things are like that exponential increase for some better quality. and it probably all depends on the application of course if what extra you pay adds to what your doing or if its just the "cause i can" reason.

Easy... Marlin 45-70 lever gun, or 6.5 Grendel AR.
Maybe even .308 AR10 with a 16"/18" barrel. Think DMR
