During the reporting period from October 2017 through September 2018, OIG special agents conducted 1,262 internal mail theft investigations, resulting in 425 arrests, and 1,160 administrative actions.

Theft at the postal service is rampant.

OK, an inveterate contrarian back at you seekers of misery.
Your half empty glasses are all too negative.
    Mine is half full.

How about we note examples of government competence?

    US postal service:
In decades they've not ever lost one single thing I've mailed.
Is gets anywhere quickly and reliably in our huge nation for a mere half buck.
    Amazing.
    Kudos to them.

Negativism is as a pox upon our collective id.
    Cease and desist.

And actually my glass is always 100% full.
    Half liquid. Half air.
    Full.

GTFO of here with your shitposting.

    Huh?

    Why so negative?
I planted a sunflower in a shitstorm thread.

I've had about 3,000 Wednesdays and I have no idea how many I have left.
I'm gonna' go into this one with a positive attitude.

Morose or sullen individuals, always pointing out the down side of life are contrary to my nature.

I'm going to mail a letter now.
    Thanks for the GTFO advice.

Okay, I respect the call for positivity. Still....

It's not always incompetence, sometimes it is just power trip taken to an extreme.

One time we got to the Spokane airport and my daughter pulls a key chain out of her pocket. It has a TINY scaled down Super Soaker type squirt gun on it. I mean, it was maybe two inches long. The TSA guy says "You can't take it. Toss it out." She did and we went on our way. Still, in the spirit of positivity, it would have made a great SNL skit. Someone hijacking a flight with their tiny squirt gun held between thumb and forefinger. Ha!

Same kid, next trip. We get to the checkpoint and she pulls out a section of CHAIN. Of course we both know where that's going. Dad: "Where did you think we were going? To a rumble?". That one's not on the TSA, by the way.

    Love that kid, but WTH?

I think every gubment dept has good employees and bad employees. But I think the bad is made worse by the fact that the job is really secure. Like you have to do something really bad before you get fired. But the post office seems to have the highest percentage of EEs that just don't care.

I have had great service by local and state agencies, the IRS, SS Admin. And I have had people "assist" me that didn't give a rip.

Only gripe I had was when a family member passed I was in charge making things happen. The SS Admin refused to send a partial month of benefits after they jerked the entire balance out of the guy's bank account. I made a couple calls and realized I was farting into the wind.

There are no partial months benefits from Social Security.

    Out here by the lake!
You want to talk about Post office scumbaggery. Late in life my dad took up wood carving. He carved a dragon headed staff for me & sent it USPS. He packed it in a fairly heavy cardboard tube. When it got to my house you could see two foot prints where someone jumped on it. I don't say stepped because no one is that stupid.

I took it to the post office & complained. Because my dad failed to insure it they said their was nothing they could do about it. Well that set off my Tourette's Syndrome on the manager!

This involves the USPS so I guess it counts, also it happened yesterday.

I recieved this notification in my tracking status from Amazon on Monday.

    "Returning to seller

    We apologize for the inconvenience.
Unfortunately, your package was not delivered because it was damaged. If you haven’t already received a refund, please contact us."

The package was in my mailbox Tuesday, absolutely nothing wrong with it.

    Ok...todays USPS story.

Chase walking the Appalachain Trail a few years back. Sent him regular drop boxes so he could resupply. Cool weather came and it was time to send some gear for that. Sent the Patagonia puffy, the wool cap his Aunt knitted him, etc. etc. (bout 5-600 bucks worth of stuff)

I had not been insuring the food and hadnt had any problems so I didnt insure this package.

Package lost, he got by and bought new stuff. After MANY phone calls by myself and my very helpful postmaster I filed with the PO and they sent me a check for the base ins. amount (50 bucks or somethin?)....box long gone. Check came in a week or so.

Chase finishes up his tour and comes home a couple months later and guess what shows up on the front doorstep!!!

    Never ceases to amaze.

Oh the USPS. They're not all bad, for sure. Our local carriers have been very nice and usually do a great job. Certainly not perfect though.

If your package is shipping from Amazon, and the last mile delivery is being handled by USPS, it has a VERY high chance of the tracking showing delivered a day or two before it actually shows up. Amazon Prime has strict delivery requirements, but the USPS doesn't give a rip - they just mark it delivered so Amazon is happy, and then deal with the delivery whenever.

One of my personal shipments was "lost", so I got in contact with the local postmaster (who was very nice, once I finally got to her). They couldn't locate it, but it was insured. She agreed I could stop in and she'd get me reimbursed. Somehow, out of the blue, the exact day I was supposed to go in to see her (~5 weeks after mailing the package) it gets delivered. Tracking never showed it ever going anywhere in their system (including any origin scan). Still head scratching that one.

But of course, that brings us to the counter staff. They are tied with the DMV for that perfect mix of .... employee. It starts with the good old "I don't give a crap if there's 100 people in line, I'm not moving any faster than the slowest I can go. If I could go slower I would, but then I'd break the space/time continuum and start moving in reverse." Then add in the requisite "oh, it's break time. Now I'll move as FAST as I can to get off the counter and not come back until I absolutely have to." This builds on the obvious "you mean you don't know every detail of every service the USPS offers, and you have the audacity to ask me? <sigh> I've gone through this like 100x already today <eyeroll>"

Yuuuup. The hurst location was not a positive experience at all.

I got the crazy old cat lady that’s bitter in life and think she’s gods gift to her job.

This location was just a joke. A water dispenser I believe it was; something had lost its water and one of the employees just threw paper towels over it. Left it there the full 4 hours I was there. No caution signs. Person in charge or someone important walks right by it. Ignores it.

It’s getting close to closing. Then the system crashes. An employee informs us that only some services are available right now. Doesn’t say what. She’s not that far from my seat. I raise my hand and ask “excuse me mam, are you able to process new licenses”? Everyone can hear me. Others are looking at her for an answer too. She just walks off. I get louder and say: “thank you mam, you were a big help”. Get a chuckle out just about the whole waiting room.
