Is there a structural advantage to a boot that utilizes 3 pieces of leather (including the heel part) to form the foot ? Seems like it just allows the maker to make use of smaller pieces of leather in his work & puts an "unsightly" stitch line at the back of the vamp but there doesn't seem to be a real cost savings for the end user.

Those were originally to guard against the wear that comes from wearing spurs all the time.

    Beat me to it.

My mother in law threw away my perfectly broke in Tony Llama boots. And I had just had a new sole and patch over the outside where a cow had stepped on my foot.

It seems hard to find a pair just like them anymore. The split at the top is not as deep, so its hard to tuck your jeans into them. And the heel on the ones that are close seem much steeper than the ones on my old pair. And they all seem to be square toed, which I don't care for.

    Dang I'm whiney today.

The last good pair of boots I bought were made in three sections like that. I asked a Cobbler about that and he said it was for structure and rigidity.

    I hate square toed boots.

What's wrong with square toed boots? I only ask as I am fixin to replace a pair of round toed boots (cheaper Justins) that I have had for the last 8 years.

I was actually considering a pair of square toed for replacements as I have never owned a pair.

Just don't care for the looks. Personal taste.
