How come they don't eat soup with chopsticks?

    Riddle me that one.

Plus, unless you're Asian, put down the chopsticks you cultural mis-appropriater, pick up a fork, shut up and eat.

P.S. A non-Asian using chopsticks can't look dorkier, but ever so trendy.......

Then, discovered the so-called meat was tripe.
I've used chopsticks, generally preferring them to forks, for almost 40 years. And I love pho, even when made with tripe (which isn't mandatory, btw).

    I'm a terrible person, I guess.

    Ben,

    No you're not, you're a great guy.

Of late, this place and some of it's overweening anxiety regarding the anti-gun worries has me weakly trying to be silly rather than worry, worry, worry, about civil war, red flag laws, etc.

So, I like to pick on trendies, with their man buns, backpaks as fashion statements, talk of green this and that and well, maybe you get me?

Now, put down those chop sticks, but do work on adopting an epicanthic squint and sound off with obscure Confucius quotes.

If I go out for Chinese food I will eat with chopsticks. It's more efficient for that type of food. Going out to eat in Japan, there are many places that if can't use chopsticks, they may or may not have a fork, but even if they did, would you want to be the dork asking for a fork? I just got used to chopsticks and it seems wrong to eat Chinese or Japanese food with forks. Both Chinese and Japanese use spoons for soup, usually a ladle type spoon, and picking up the bowl and slurping is not rude to them.

I refuse to eat Asian food with chopsticks.

    Why not?

I'm a white guy and think 'for the most part', white people (my people) look pretentious as hell when they use chopsticks.

Many cultures use their bare hands too.

Why not eat your lamb and veggies with your bare hands like the natives?

    Cuz, you ain't a native.

Hummus and tabuleh - mmmmmhhh boy, scrape it up with your bare hands and stuff your face.

    Uh-huh.......

Certainly different cultures do things differently, but as I said, chopsticks can be more efficient than silverware for certain foods. I can care less what someone might think of me while I'm eating. Now if I didn't know how to use them, then most certainly I would look like a fool.

    ER,

    Sounds good.

If you're adept at using chopsticks perhaps it's kinda cool to do so especially if it's more efficient, though I don't see how?

    Here's your steak Sir.

    Knife?

No sir, just use your chop sticks.

    Soup?

If you can't dip those chop sticks I don't know what to tell ya...yeah, just slurp off the drippy ends, there you go. I'll be back in 4 hours for your next course.

I used to be pretty good at 'walking the dog' and other tricks with my Duncan Yo-Yo.

Enjoyed the admiring looks I did.
