    Hi all,

Going to be moving from Phoenix, AZ ( hot, very dry) to Midland/Odessa area. Need some advice on how to store my fireams and ammo...not sure if the humidity in Midland is significant enough to warrant changing the way I store/clean/oil my firearms.

I have AK's and XD's, if it makes a difference.

Any advice to a Texas newb?

    TIA.

You will only need to oil up your guns every six months if keeping them stored.I use oil bags for my guns that are not shot that often.

I live in Midland. Let me know if you have questions or if you wanna go shooting.

Midland is dry for the most part, but here lately we've had a lot of rain. For the next week or two after this it'll be humid as hell but normally very dry here.

Best bet is to store the guns about the same way you already do from what I can tell. I shoot mine often enough to not have them stored for several months at a time.

I hope you like Midland, (Midland is better than Slodessa)

    Ditto,

I live in Midland as well

Anyhow, I spent 4 months in Tuscon and a couple of weeks in Mesa. The climate isn't that much different. I joke with people, if you can handle Arizona, than Midland/Odessa want be a problem. It's slightly cooler and the hummitity is low. I also live at the range, so I typicaly don't have to worry about dust let alone rust.

As for the rain, I usualy don't mind but I am trying to build a new fence:(

Well for the AK's, you can dunk 'em in a bucket of motor oil if you'd like, then they'll be good to go for another 200yrs or so, and it will double as lubricant so you won't even have to lubricate them again for at least like 200yrs or so. The XD's, well those are just plastic guns, don't have to do anything with those and they'll just keep running, because they're plastic. lol ;) I'm totally kidding.

I lived in Mesa several years back and didn't have to change anything for mine....welcome to Texas.

Thanks I'll be out there on Sunday the 21st...living in a hotel for a month until I can find somewhere for the family to live...so I'm only bringing my XD45, an SKS and "some" ammo.

I will...I'm gonna be stuck in a hotel for awhile, and I'll need some shooting buddies and local funshop advice.
I noticed the weather is sucking the past few days....cold, rainy...I'm gonna freeze to death.....

    HK_Snob...errr....Fiend, ;)
I actually do use motor oil on my AK's and SKS'...cheaper and it works well.
Wouldn't dream of it on my XD's though...way too pretty.

Right! That's what I love about those guns. They are the Glocks of the rifle world and just seem to work under any condition.

Yes sir, I figured there was a good chance you was an AK man if you came from Arizona. There is a lot of AK fans out in the desert.
