Got a few thousand rounds of 5.56 and getting nervous? Wondering what to do once they take away all the "short barreled rifles" that Walmart now hates?

Ruger American Ranch AR in 5.56. Takes the AR mags (you know, once you plug them to 10 rounds) and is drop dead sexy to boot. Plus it's threaded to take that suppressor you paid $200 and went through all the hassle to get. 5.5 lbs. of awesome sauce.

Might take you a few years longer to shoot up your ammo stash, but at least you don't have to do it 4+1 at a time.

    I got one last year
    Helluva truck gun
Short and easy to retrieve from the back seat.
It's just a handy gun I carry at my ranch all fall

It’s ready to mount optics on out of the box.

Quoted for truth. I can speak from experience that if you know how to mount a scope properly, attaching an optic to the Predator or the Ranch is a very Plug-and-Play affair. It does not take much effort to get it zeroed, even less if you use a Site-Lite on it before you take it to the range.

The Ruger American line is meant to be utilitarian. Not fancy, just workmanlike, just like your favorite cordless drill motor or socket set.

The Rugers get good reveiws. They also chamber their Scout Rifle in .223. Magazines are available but annoying to get since AI pattern magazines aren't readily available for such small cartridges. Actually, I think mags have to be purchased through Ruger for the .223. Still a great gun.

Troy also sells a pump action AR if you want a psuedo "assault rifle." I am somewhat enamored with the model that has a skeletonized folding stock.

I wish they'd make one in 6.5 Grendel.

Are there affordable bolt actions chambered for 6.5 CM's little sister?
