Does anyone have a review of one of these? They are insanely popular for some reason or another. We have a waiting list that's about 30 names long and get people coming in all the time looking for them.

A friend of mine bought one about a month ago. He got 9 rounds through it before the frame bulged and the trigger bar fell out of place. I know some of them are doing well, but he must have gotten one of the earlier production models.

i hsot one sunday at the range. Small light gun that actually felt good in my big hands. LOUD and it kicks. The guy who the LCP belongs to just came out to test function but was kind enough to let me empty a mag to check it out. Nice smooth but long trigger pull, then it went BANG and i though "holy crap, wasn't expecting that might kick. The owner was shooting it all AROUND a steel silhoete (sp) at about 65 yards but that is not what this gun was designed for. I put 3 rds into a target at 3yds and three more rds into a target at 7yd. due to the short barrel and closeness of the sights i had some trouble getting really tight groups at 7yds but this LCP would be ideal for HD/PD ranges. Oh, the coolest thing about this gun was that then gentleman walked up with a walmart bag with ammo loose in the bottom and he then pulled, out of the same pocket, a NAA .25 pocket rocket AND the LCP. i would never have gussed he had two pistols in that one pocket. highly concelable. My wife wanted an LCP really bad after looking at the new Ruger catalog but after seeing me shoot it she thought she might like somehting in .22 a bit better.

All in all i was quite impressed with this little semi, and would consider getting one if i don't hear too many more stories about bulgin frames and other issues.

I got one for my wife, put over 200 rounds of reloads from collins cartrage thru it, not one function issue with it. However it does shoot low at 10 yds.

There was a good review in NRA's American Rifleman earlier this year.

Sportsman's Finest in Bee Cave has at least one in stock.

Here's a vid from awhile back on Downrange TV:

    Link

What's weird is they didn't have a problem with this initial test (I think it was right before these started making their way on to the market). That's odd. Maybe there were some issues in manufacturing with the final production run versions? Who knows.

I gave up waiting on one and bought the Keltec P3AT. May not have the Ruger fit and finish but the trigger feels better and I have had no problems with it.

With all the problems I have heard folks having with the LCP perhaps someone was looking out for me.

I had a LCP but I got rid of it. I put roughly 200 rounds through it and experienced a lot of jamming/stovepipping. It didn't feed ball ammo well either. My LCP was a Lemon I guess. But thank God the gun shop that I purchased it at refunded me my money. I ended up leaving the gun shop with a Sig P232. No more malfunctions!!

    I like mine

I have had absolutely no problems with my LCP. I have been amazed at the accuracy it has. I've had not one single failure of any kind. It is my every day/all day gun.

NO reason not to! Ruger is quality, and the LCP is no exception. I have heard of some issues with the LCP, but then tell me a gunmaker that hasn't had some kind of issues...

Saw this at the last shot show it is super small which is good for a pocket gun, I talked with my contact at Khar and she said they would be coming out with a .380 soon that was even better. Ofcourse this is coming from a kahr rep... but I do have to admit the Khar pocket pistols are my fav

Every pocket gun model has operational problems - seems to be a function of them being so small and having so little mass relative to the power of the round they chamber. Take any model - Kel-Tec, Seecamp, Kahr - they're all going to be troublesome relative to larger weapons in the same caliber.

I've had an LCP for about six months. The first thing I did when I got it was to field strip, clean and lube. Have not had the first problem with it since.

Yesterday, I took my new Ruger LCP test fired at the factory by Preston King on 09/05/2008.
I had just picked up from my dealer this past Friday and went This Sunday to break it in.
Well 101 rounds went through it and thats all I could run through the little pistol before I had a trigger issue FTF, trigger would not reset.

Now the LCP will go back to Ruger for repair. I am dissapointed. Could be a broke part. I have heard of triiger pivot pin breaking.

My question for you shinerjohn is "how many rounds have you run through your LCP ?" There could be a reliability issue here and not to down grade ruger at all. I only want the issue resolved. How many rounds total?

The accuracy was fine for a belly gun no prob there. feeding was rough, though no stove pipes or anything but needed to help the slide forward some times.
For a self-defense gun would you trust it in a pinch?

I own the Kel-Tec P3AT from which the LCP was copied. From many of the reports it appears the new folks at Ruger skrewed the pooch and copied the earliest iteration of the P3AT with all the problems of a new design.

If true, I'd suspect Ruger's Little Copycat Pistol might be a good choice a year from now, once the new folks at Ruger catch up on the "fixes" Kel-Tec has engineered since they first introduced the design. :p

I've had my LCP since early April.
Over 400 rounds of WWB and Speer Gold Dot, not one malfunction of any kind.
I find it odd how some can pass harsh opinions without ever handling the pistol.
I shot both LCP and Kel-Tec before I bought the LCP.
Call the LCP a clone if you'd like, but I much preferred it over the Kel-Tec.
The LCP looks better and is made better IMHO.
There were some peening problems with some of the 1st Generation LCPs.
But Ruger fixed any gun sent back to them and also fixed the problems in manufacturing.
I did polish the barrel and guide rod the day I brought it home.
It is a handful to shoot and is by no means a range gun.
It does what it was designed to do very well.
    I've carried it all summer..

I'd recommend the LCP to anyone wanting a quality semi-auto pocket pistol.
It can be totally concealed in any pocket.
I have a few comparison pics that compare the size of the LCP to a few other pistols.
If anyone is interested, I'll post them.

The LCP is clearly a copy of the Kel-Tec:

    P380.gif

There are lots of folks who have issue-free LCPs, and lots of folks who do not!

Reading the experiences of owners at the Ruger Forum or the LCP forum will quickly illustrate that.

BTW, I carry my P3AT in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster, and it's easy to modify it for an extra mag as well.
