I’m a brand new gun owner. I went to the store, they did a background check and I got my gun. But I keep reading in the paper (yes I read the newspaper!) that all these legislators are calling for universal background checks. Don’t we already have background checks? What am I missing?

If you decided to buy a gun from your friend, there is no required background check

    Gunz are icky.
What they’re after is recording every gun out there so they know who has what and where it is.
By requiring a background check the system will eventually locate all firearms so the guns can be confiscated when the .gov wants to.
Once UBC is passed they’ll slowly increase penalties for non compliance.
They’ll also make minimum qualifications to own more difficult.
Long term it will be so difficult (legal paperwork&expense)most will not bother with trying to own firearms.
Over time the guns will be collected as the owners die off.

    Naaa.
    Too expensive.
Legit gun owners pay taxes. Can't kill'em off. No money to steal.
Besides there is the wear and tear on the JackBoots.
Beancounters don't want to pay out PTSD and disability claims resulting from messy retrievals.
Let's not forget the ever possible mega-payout lawsuit. Less money to steal.
    Dynamic stuff will be minimal.
    They're playing the long game.
Everybody dies. That's when the guns will be turned over because its just too much of a hassle for the remaining family to keep them.

Sales between two private individuals (neither is a dealer) do not currently require NICS checks.

If you really believe our tyrannical government would not impose and enforce unconstitutional laws for fear of losing tax revenue you are a fool.

Danger Will Robinson! Danger! What ZXR9Cam means with his popcorn is that calling someone a fool with only 54 posts under your belt can get a line drawn through your user name.

Best not to show what you gots. That Way the boot jacks don't know. of course I believe i the 2 gun theory. but one they will know of and one they will not.
And when you get caught with the unregistered firearm you get a life sentence.

The only possible reason to hoard an arsenal like that is to kill babies and old ladies and over throw the gooberment.

Well even a broke clock is half right. You got me on that gooberment part. Not that seditious violence is ever the answer. Never ever. Ever. Hear me NSA, never ever.

you guys are cracking me up

    “danger! danger!”

    2-gun theory

    goober-ment.

i don’t know what you would call these modern-day legislators, but that “broken clock, half-right” aka even a broken clock is right 2x day, doesn’t/won’t/can’t even apply to them. those clock hands would have to be rotating counter-clockwise AND always be at the exact opposite of whatever the correct/current time ACTUALLY is/would be. it doesn’t get any more backa$$ wards or nonsensical than 1 of these democrats. the republican reps are at least half as nutty. when you have Ted Cruise entertaining a debate with alyssa milano & gregg abbot entertaining ideas of red flag flaws, it’s time to stop pretending that we as conservatives &/or constitutionalists have any advocates left in these ”gooberments”
