    Out here by the lake!
After little over a year I won my Social Security Disability claim. I ended up lawyering up after being denied on the first claim & appeal. My hearing was today & the judge approved the claim just reveiwing it. Lawyer said it was a first time for him to see a judge do it.

Lawyer said 4-8 weeks & I'll be getting my checks. $6K to the lawyer paid off my back pay from when I first filed.

How long did it take the lawyer to get it done? I know a guy who got disability for his back. Seems like it took him 2 or 3 years with no lawyer.

You mentioned a year, but I don't know how long the lawyer was involved in it. Do they have lawyers that specialize in this sort of thing? (Hopefully I never need to find out first hand)

When I eat lunch with 3 of my retired buddies I always get up from the table first and say I'd better get back to work since I'm the only SOB working and you guys gotta get your social security checks.

I first applied online Sept 19 2018, got denied then appealed. Went to see their doctor had some imaging done & was denied again. They didn't think I was not disabled they thought I had skills to work another job. That's when I lawyered up. SS disallows the first 3 months of a claim. Originally the lawyer said 12-18 months. I do not remember the original date i lawyered up, but it looks like just over a year. SSD lawyer advertise on the idiot box here in Houston.

So this is something I unfortunately know a lot about. My mother has been a social security disability advocate for almost 30 years. In 1995 you could get on SS for almost anything. I'm serious, even alcoholism would win you a social security claim. They really started tightening the noose in the late 00s. Increasing the requirements, changing what could and couldn't be listed as a disability etc. From about 2014 on ANY claim is automatically denied the first time. Even blatantly obvious ones like a person that was quadripalegic with a traumatic brain injury was denied.

12 to 18 months is pretty quick these days for a claim. Most claims, that have any chance of winning, take about 2 to 4 years.
