I want to see the video of the sale and the 4473.

Scenario: a soldier comes in to purchase rifle. Has a military ID and any state license.
    No sale.
States he has vehicle registration showing him residing in Texas and military orders showing him stationed in Texas.
Pass the NICS check, good to go.

If he purchased while on active duty, legal. Once he signs out of the military, not legal.
A question of when he bought it and what documentation he had.
Or what he was able to falsify. I know several that got out of the military and still had an ID with a valid date on it. Illegal to use it but they had it. And a copy of their PCS orders.
If they wanted, they could pass for active duty. Just lie on the form.

Academy has always seemed to follow the letter of the law whenever I've bought there.

If they have a good defense (I'm guessing yes), they'll probably sit on it and wait for court instead of releasing the info and giving them time to find another reason to drag them into this.

I’m of the opinion that jrbfishin is closer to the truth then .gov is.

It doesn’t even take falsification; unless you’re intimately familiar with DoD orders, most wont understand what they’re actually looking at or how to validate them as somewhat valid.

I was under the impression that it’s legal to buy a rifle in another state, but it’s some stupid law specific to Colorado that wasn’t followed which they are trying to hang Academy with.

No expert on the matter, just seemed to be the topic in the days after the shooting.

My ex SIL tried to buy a pistol after he moved back from Colorado.
They wouldn't let him buy it until he proved that he lived here.
Maybe it is just Colorado, don't know for sure.

I think pistols and handguns are treated differently that long guns.

But I’m really getting in to things I “think” and don’t “know”, so take it with a grain of salt.
