What is the general take on these? I liked their 1911’s.

I could use a high capacity 45 in full size for the house.

has anyone shot their subcompact models in 9mm or 45? What’s your thoughts?

I love my XD45 service. Very reliable, much more so than a 1911. Similar grip. I converted mine to 460 Rowland. It can shoot 45 ACP, 45 Super, 450 SMC and 460 Rowland in the same unmodified magazine.

It ain't a Glock and I never wanted it to be.

I own the XDM 3.8 compact in both 45 and 9. They are great guns. The 45 has 9 round compact mags, and 13 round with the grip extension, and work perfectly. It is more accurate than I am and easy to shoot. I did break down and put in PR triggers, although the stock trigger was ok if a bit mushy to me. The PRP is a huge improvement, as good as any striker trigger I have ever used.
I like the XDM, and it has been absolutely reliable.

I want the true full size in 45 and the smallest available in 9mm.

I hope they are not too expensive on the used market.

If you carry, the XDM 3.8 in 9 and 45 fit the same holster, and with the extended mags you get 19 and 13. I have carried them IWB with no issues.
Original XD are out there pretty inexpensive, and the 45 uses the same 13 round mag as the XDM. The 9 is different though, I think the XDM has more capacity.
I would think you can find them, they are not terribly expensive guns new.

I saw a full sized well worn 9mm version for 375 at a LGS.

I was considering buying a academy special s&w SD 9MM ve for 299. But if I can get a XD in 45acp ( I have probably 1 thousand rounds of 45) full size used for a similar price. It’s a better gun and deal.

I have the XDm 3.8 Compact in 45 ACP. It has been totally reliable with the 2320 rounds I've put through it. Not picky about ammo brands either. I put a light on it and it is my designated bedside gun.

I had heard a while back that Springfield was going to discontinue the XDm compact, but apparently they haven't.

I've shot an XD in 9mm and own an XDM in 10mm.

They are wonderful guns. They shoot very accurately, and are easy to shoot, at least for me. The trigger is not the best. It's not bad, but just not the best. Aftermarket ones are available (for the XDM, not sure about XD) if it's not to your liking. I'm happy enough with mine.

    They are extremely reliable.

Can some one explain the model designations?

what is the full size standard model designated?

    Ans the standard smallest 9mm?
I am not referring to the expensive versions, entry grade.

    XD-Original series.
XD MOD.2-Original series with a face lift.
XDM-Much like the original with a face lift (slight ergonomic improvements), match barrel and grab bag of accessories.
XDS-Original but single stack mag for CCW.
XDE-I don't know much about these, as far as I can tell is an alternate version of the XDS.

Size designation is pretty much determined by barrel length under each main category. IMO you are looking for the XDS 3.3 9mm.

I have an XDM .45acp 4.5' stainless that I pre ordered when they were announced. It has a PPR trigger and Truglo tritium sights. I couldn't be happier. It's my work piece; hunting (deer, duck, hog), clearing brush/timber, fence line work, if I'm outsideit's on my hip. Thing has been through rain and hell and still runs and looks great. Bonus...promag makes 25rd happy sticks for it!!!

It's no secret to anyone who's been on here for anytime that I am a huge fan of the Springfield XD line!

My first was a XD Service (4") in .45 ACP, then I picked up a XD-S in the same caliber ("Never shoot a large caliber man with a small caliber bullet"). Then I snagged a XD(M) Competition Series in 5.25", which essentially mirrors the dimensions of a M1911A1 except for being slightly wider (but as it holds double the ammo, I'll allow it!).

As for the variants, Wikipedia does a good job explaining each...

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HS2000#Variants

As for the XD(M) designation, it means the pistol comes with a 'Match Grade" barrel (manufactured to tighter tolerances and custom-fitted for better accuracy) and trigger, and an ambidextrous magazine release.

I've got an XDS Mod 2 that I use as my primary carry pistol. Feels good in my hand and shoots well.
Bought it used with less than 50 rounds through it for $275 about a year ago

One of my cc is an XDs 45 ACP. I’ve owned it for many years. No issues.

What was that old credit card commercial? “don’t leave home without it”?

    and I don’t.

I love mine. It has been faithful after about 1200 rounds. I have one of the first generation 4" service models with a thumb safety. Many poopoo on the grip safety but I'm good with it. Mine isn't as precise as my cousins HK USP45 but it's also 1/4 the price. I picked it up yeas ago for $400 including 2 spare 13 round magazines.
    Here is a stock photo.
