The specific charge they are undertaking in this hearing raises a positively Orwellian specter:

"Assess how state and local law enforcement agencies, fusion centers, mental health providers, digital platforms and social media companies such as Google, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc., can better collaborate to detect, prevent, and respond to mass violence and terroristic activity. Examine what resources, staffing and protocols are necessary to enhance these partnerships and whether state funding is needed to assist local authorities in this endeavor."

Nothing says "Big Brother is watching" like the possibility of a 4:00 AM raid to seize your guns based on nothing more than a Google search or a Facebook post. Fun times!

3 Nov 1964, is the first day of deer season, today is Friday 1 Nov. Last night we have "First Christmas" and Dad gave me that Browning hunting coat a new pair of boots and a Win Mdl 70 in .270 Win and Mom gave me a Weaver 3x9 Scope. I am wearing my new coat, glad its cold today and putting my new Mdl70 w/ Scope in my gun rack in my truck. Can't wait for lunch to get here as most of the teachers and Principal and Vice-Principal will come out to the student parking lot to look at our Deer rifles, can't wait to show mine off so I left for school early to get a good parking place upfront to show the Coach, he has a Mdl 70 too.

Yea that was my youth, enough guns and ammo out in the High School student parking lot to start a war or maybe end one.

This begs the question: Why is it different today?
