If you don't like this song then you are a commie

There I was up in Bangor Maine and as it turns out the State Fair was going on. With some time on my hands, I decided to go. Truthfully it was a lot of fun albeit small...as compared to the Texas state Fair.

I see a BIG man with a Cowboy hat on leaning on a rail drinking a can of Coke. I walk over and say, I see there are 2 of here with Cowboy hats on, he laughs a belly laugh and we talk for a bit, me asking him if he had ever been to this, telling him it was my first time. He finishes his Coke and says he has to go to work. Really where is your booth I will stop by? He points and all I see is a stage and I am thinking he must work with the band or something.

    It was Charlie Daniels!

We talked, he was friendly, asked what this Texas boy was doing up there, GREAT guy!

I have always heard that he is a down to earth, humble man. What a place to meet him at though. People at the fair probably thought you were with the band! Ive been a fan since I was a kid. My dad use to listen to them on his stereo out in the shed

He was just a big man in a cowboy hat, we talked, he asked me about me, never knew who he was, I had heard his music, but had never seen him play. Just a couple of good ole boys drinking cokes and shootin the chit.

Truthfully I heard that so many times, even my wife tells me I should. The problem, I see my life as normal, even tho it was far from it, but it was normal to me. I was about 25 when I got married, I was a 2nd Lt in the Army and my wife HATED the Army with a passion, except on payday, she divorced me 5 years later when I came back from Korea...I stayed single for the next almost 25 years. No child support, no alimoney and my paycheck was mine, I had no ties anything, go, do, see...
