One thing to consider is that we (responsibly so) give a lot of consideration to both the ballistic performance of the chosen round and to collateral damage mitigation.

I reckon an armed intruder doesn’t give it that much thought.

Damn good point. Another angle to the 'unknown.' You are responsible for your rounds, while also trying to mitigate the assailant's rounds.

I would really like to take a 'in house' training course.

Seriously? You shoot more than paper and cardboard much?

That is 41ea, .24cal, 60gr projectiles coming @ 1325fps. If that doesn't drop a man at any distance with in the walls of your home, you missed. If your home is large enough for this to be ineffective within due to distance, you probably have private security on payroll.

**Edit: That is Remington 3" Mag**

Can you not read? It in not able to consistently reach vital organs. #1 buck is as small as you can go and still get the necessary penetration.

You are putting to much value on numbers, bullets do weird things, and theres plenty of cases of people taking obscene amounts of damage and literally shrugging it off.

That's the problem, you're reading too much. The numbers I'm really putting value on are the number of dead animals I've stacked up with this load; pigs larger, faster and more robust than a man. I mean go with what you know. Other people's articles and videos be damned. If anyone has serious thirst for results of this or that, go pop a #150 + boar with it a see how effective it is.

Cool, good thing for you all home invaders are pigs!

People have different reactions to being shot than animals. Animals don't carry guns, don't wear thick clothes or armor, don't hide behind things. Animals don't shoot back when your precious dove load gives them a bad case of acne.

I've been hog hunting too, that doesn't make you, me, or anyone else an expert on home defense. All it means is that you went hunting.

A charge from a pissed off bayed up boar with think fur, the natural neck/shoulder armor from fighting, in the confines of a thicket is about the best legal practice you're going to get.

Like most (if not all) calibers, 5.56's terminal ballistics rely on velocity to perform as intended. Any run-of-the-mill 55gr ball ammo will have devastating effects on soft tissue, assuming it's moving fast enough. As long as it's fired from a long enough barrel (16" or 14.5") and the projectile does not have a steel perpetrator (no M855/SS109), you're gtg.

They do have sbr ammo for shorter barrels now.
