My son, mid 1996, when he was 10 years old learned about enhancing blowjobs with Altoids from the mainstream media reporting on Monica Lewinski.

Like it or not our kids get a much earlier and a much more explicit media and internet education than we might imagine or condone.

I'll observe that maybe 1/4 of parents are capable of teaching 6th graders basic algebra.
I'll, similarly, observe that no more than 1/4th of parents are comfortable and capable of teaching sexuality to their middle schoolers.

Just last week I spoke, in a professional capacity, to a mother who was aghast that one of her daughters 7th grade friends was caught receiving cunnilingus from a classmate in a bathroom stall.
These kids need responsible, age appropriate, accurate information. Most parents are woefully unprepared to provide such an education at home.

The Austin proposed curriculum seems fair and balanced and appropriate for our societal needs.

I could be wrong, though I thoroughly doubt it.
The fact that many parents are lousy parents does not obviate the fact that it is the parent's job to teach these things. The state and the schools can stay the hell out.

I've been welding for 44 years. In that time I got a degree in welding and was a welding supervisor. That qualified me to teach welding technology.

Who is teaching these children this so called sex education? What qualifies them to teach it? Who determines a person is qualified to teach this?

How did I or children before I was a child get through life without this so called education? Did I learn about things other than teachers or parents informing me? Certainly, and many things that I'm sure my parents wouldn't approve of, but it was my parents raising me that decided how I would process such information, not indoctrination that some teacher would decide how I should view such things. If you need someone to raise kid, get a nanny, not some gender studies graduate.

I think the Liberal attitude toward the information being discussed and the age range tells me enough to know that's not who I want disseminating the information to them.

Just FYI - I'd been away from the forum for a while and couldn't recall why I certain members on ignore, now I remember.

Holy Cow! A bit late to this party. I surely do not want a school teacher to provide such explicit information to amy child. Especially about reproductive organs to a 3rd grader. ince my kids are grown I do not hav to worry. But if I lived in that district my kids would be homeschooled or in private school tomorrow.

The premise of most public educators today is that the schools are responsible for shaping the cultural and social beliefs of our children. Just like other liberals believe our forefathers were stupid, the public education system largely believes that they are far better equipped than parents to teach children these concepts. They have been doing so for the past two generations and this is why we are where we are today
Thank you. You said it, exactly how I feel about it.

The Austin Independent School District Board has now approved the teaching of anal sex and homosexuality for grades 3 through 8. There will be no mercy for these sodomite promoting idiots when they die and go to hell as their reward for damaging our children.
The first link tells it like it is, the second link is a mainstream media page for those who think the mindcontrol site is exaggerating things.

That is nothing but pedophiles taking over the educational system and implementing programs to groom entire grade schools at once for their "Free Candy" land.

Fair enough if you consider me a lousy parent. Meh. All 4 of my kids have advanced beyond-college degrees and none conceived a child before age 30. I'll take partial credit.

Too many lousy parents become lousy grandparents at far too early a time in their parenting careers ...when their utter ignorance of teen sexuality results in irresponsible teen sexuality.

    Agree to disagree.
    ........................

The Austin school district's current unanamous decision to pass a policy appropriate to the 21st century is likely a harbinger of what will soon come at our state's upcoming hearings. Check the link:

    https://www.texastribune.org/2019/10/29/texas-austin-school-sex-education/

The last time the Texas State School Board addresses the issue was in 2004 when they passed abstinence-only text books.
What an abomination were that to occur for the 2020 school year.

An unsung public health win is that nationwide the teen pregnancy rate is about half what it once was.
Most of the responsibility for that amazing fact goes to more responsible sexuality based on placing accurate age appropriate information in the hands of our students.

Kudos to Austin. Pray that our states teen pregnancy rate and abortion rate continues to fall.

~20% of Texas teen pregnancy's were to second-time-moms.
Let's appropriate some state funding to get those irresponsible women some form of LARC (google it).

    Check the interactive map.
Texas has a woefully high unplanned teen pregnancy rates compared to our nation.

Much of that sad fact may be due to the sort of Texan attitudes that could somehow oppose Austin's progressive and evidence based new school policy.

A lot of eye opening data in these national maps.

Sounds like we need to work more on creating a more responsible society, starting in our own towns and neighborhoods.

You are promoting the treatment of a symptom. And the treatment is being administered by a practitioner known for fucking up everything it touches.

This is something parents should be teaching. Not schools. Failure of some parents does not make it the responsibility of the school.

Unless you're able to purge Austin of it's liberal ideals, I doubt there is enough people that could turn it around. I hope someone shoots me if I ever say I have a desire to move to Austin. Austin makes it very hard to say things like "I'm glad that only happens in California".

WHOAAAA......if that is true (I don't doubt you) that is a stunning statistic. I have feeling that it is due to some "cultural factors" here in Texas.

Is that not precisely what Austin is attempting to do with the dissemination of accurate information.

It will, in all likelihood, be a model for our state to follow.
Our state is certainly one of the worst in our nation.

I was hesitant to point something out that seems obvious because it will be something many will find disagreeable.

The teen pregnancy rate clearly parallels conservatism in the 50 states in the US map in my link.

Bible Belt conservative states clearly have the highest rates of irresponsible sexuality as evidenced my the teen pregnancy (and abortion) rates.

I would like to see the breakdown of ethnicity of the unwed mothers and especially the second time (third, fourth, and up) unwed mothers. I know what I witnessed working in the AA community. And it doesn't stand for All-American.
