    I guess there’s more of a market for $1500 revolvers than $1500 AR’s.

I’m not too hip on revolvers, but I’d love to know how this Python is better than a S&W equivalent...?

I dunno, I sure see a lot of Gucci ARs out there by range operators. ;)

I think the fact that people can build ARs cheaply drives down the perceived value for the average AR shooter. Doesn't mean they can build them well with quality parts but they can build them. Just a hunch.

Meanwhile very few can build a revolver.

I’ve been looking to purchase a Python. I’m glad I couldn’t find one that was reasonable priced. I may get a new one though. 1499.00 MSRP so that may translate to a 1100-1200 price. I wonder if this will cause the older ones to drop in price?

I'll look at it. In a year or so it may be affordable. Don't expect it to shoot as well as a S&W in double action, Colt or Ruger either one can copy S&W for some reason.

Pete, how many Pythons have you shot ?

    I have 4, 6 and 8 inch Pythons, and several S&W's.......

While some of my Smith's are pretty damn sweet...none are as smooth in double action shooting as the Pythons.....right out of the box...

I would gladly let you shoot them anytime.....

Precision Centers are pretty sweet and smooth out of the box, and about the same MSRP.

If it's built to the same standards and quality of the original, it's one of those "You have to shoot one to understand." things. And, yes - it'll be on my "short list" for this year.

    Not going to happen.

The original Python was hand fitted. Colt doesn't have the skilled employees now, they are almost all retired or dead.

MAYBE CNC made parts can eliminate the hand fitting, but if that was the case every 1911 CNC shop would be making Wilson quality 1911 pistols for less than $1000. Since Dan Wesson is the big shop doing any hand fitting and their 1911 pistols are all north of $1000 and are CLOSE to a Wilson I can't see how Colt is going to make this new Python feel like a old Python.

I suspect the lock work to be totally different. Different pistol all together, they just slapped the Python name on it.
