    Ostriches have an eye for anything shiny. Being ostriches they tend to swallow shiny things (learned this when the one in camp went for my gold Dunhill lighter). If you find yourself in Africa in parts known to have diamonds & come accross ostrich shit you want to inspect it!

    I recall a time in the recent past ranchers were raising them here in the U.S., but apparently it was a fast fading fad....

    Yes, they would sell the hides for boots and the meat for upscale food. Most folks did not seem to be willing to pay big bucks for an ostrich burger.
