I'm generally pretty stubborn about buying combat proven optics for pistols and rifles, but holosun gets a lot of hype. I feel like some less expensive options are at least looking at, such as primary arms and vortex. Am I unfairly dismissing holosun? Have any stories about problems or reliability issues with holosun?

I try to avoid Chinese-produced products as much as possible for my firearms.

But my budget 300BLK pistol does have a Sig Romeo5 (made in China) on it. I believe it’s the only Chinese part I have on a gun.

    Edit: does not doesn’t

I have several holosun, primary arms and vortex products. I was skeptical at 1st too. Then I figured I would give it a shot. If it didn't work out ,I could just throw then on something like a 10/22. Well that never happened. I still have them on some of my rifles.

I definitely have no interest in Sig optics. Just can't get on board with them. I have trouble trusting their firearms too, but the two that I have I do really like.

In particular I'm interested in the holosun red dot sights for pistols. I'm curious if they're solid enough to use for a ccw

I just got a Holosun to play with on a pistol. Too new to report much with yet. I was looking at the Shied, but the plastic lens getting scratched kinda worried me. They offer a glass lens as a replacement, but not as a new order from what I can tell. British company, so at least not Chinese.

Of course you can't really get by these days without having something made in China somewhere in your life.

I have 2 Holoson "red dots"on a couple of rifles (carbines) for a couple of years and they have been solid, no problems. (multiple thousand rounds through them.

I put a Primary Arms on the PCC that is beside my bed. I have 400-500 rounds through that rifle and it has been a champ so far. I just changed the battery out the other week so I know I’m good.

Would I carry a PA red dot on a duty rifle or EDC? Probably not, but for a rifle tha only sees duty on the range and bedside, I’d trust it. I feel the same about Holosun, personally.

I've had and have multiples of their optics. One of which is on my trunk/get home gun exposed to the temp extremes of a vehicle in Texas. The others have been on many rifles and carbines with some of those serving in a defensive role.

I just did a mass battery change out on these. For many of them the last time the battery was changed was during the last presidential election cycle. I've never picked one up and had it be dead on me. The auto sleep/auto wake features have always worked fine for me. Again never picked one up and had it not be on.

You can find tons of torture testing on youtube if you so desire.

For 99.9999999 percent of people they are going to perform just fine. Unless you're HALO jumping into a combat zone I guess though I'd be willing to bet many of these cheaper optics would fare fine there as well. These aren't complex electronics in these things. If you want the brand name just cause or to have "street cred" by all means buy away. But don't feel like you're being ripped off by buying a Holosun either.

I have used these optic's on "duty-carbines" and have nothing but praise for them. As others have stated, if you feel like you need to spend more money for a reliable RDS then go ahead, but mine have been used and abused and come out shinning (no pun intended).

Quality enough to be trusted for EDC and home defense?

I got into the red dot recently as my eyes are getting weaker so I've spent alot of time researching trying to figure which was for me.

I have pretty much decided on the RMR only as I was skeptical about the Chinese made optics as well till I watched Aaron Cowan @ Sage Dynamics video on the Holosun.

I was still not 100% convince so I ordered both Trijicon RMR/RM07 and Holosun 508....:)

I've to admit, I'm liking the Holosun 508 more than the RMR. I found the Holosun's 2 MOA dot with 32 MOA circle reticle easier for me to find the dot compare to the RM07.

Holosuns are gtg for home defense and duty use. The people that talk trash on them typically tell women they need to carry snub nose revolvers and nothing else.
