I appreciate the fact that the homeowner defended his family and his property, I really do. In fact, I love it; yet, I'll never quite understand why folks stand there in place out in the open - as in not moving and as in not using cover or concealment - firing at their adversary(ies) as if the gun is some sort of magic shield that will prevent them from being hit by the bad guy's bullets if the bad guy fires at them. Making a potential target of myself is not my idea of how to handle myself in such a situation.

Funny, I was just recently wondering recently what it would be like firing through a chain link fence after having a guy follow me as I walked my dog as he was making somewhat threatening but mostly idiotic comments to me from the other side of a park fence. I figured with my luck my shots would hit the fence. Watch the video carefully and you'll see the damage done to the chain link of the fence after this guy shoots it (not talking about the hole in the pole).

You'd think the guy would learn after the first time his truck was broken into and having a gun stolen. Then he leaves a wallet full of money in his truck and it gets stolen. SMDH. I probably wouldn't have been shooting at the thief as he was running away. I dunno, maybe.

Was it the same guy? Well, it will be next time now that he knows Elmer Fudd can't shoot.

I'm more curious about the universal remote. Is that one of those things that steals the signal from your key fob when it's pressed, or have they moved on to just being able to open anything now?

I think he should have been a little more careful about saying that he shot at the guy while he was trying to figure out how to get away. No matter how clear it is that he was acting within the law.

Don't leave valuables in your vehicles.

Also, if you AND your neighbors are 'constantly' having your vehicles broken into consider moving.....

    Gun stickers on the truck.
Needs shooting practice. Don't shoot if you don't have a shot. Putting others at risk.
Don't keep valuables in your vehicle to start with.
You have video camera, why not lights and alarm? Known problem area, previous activity.
Don't shoot at a non threat, even if you are allowed to by law.
Sounds like he had an unsecured gun in the garage as well.

Why would you have shot the guy through the fence?
If you mean the bad guy in this thread's main story, I probably would not have shot at him at all. If you mean the guy who was making somewhat threatening and idiotic comments to me while I walked my dog - I did not shoot at him nor draw my weapon but had he pulled out a gun - you figure it with him on one side of the chain link fence and me on the other.

    Directed at your comment.
You wondered what it would be like shooting through a fence, because of the comments being made by someone on the other side.
I merely asked why you would shoot through a fence at someone, in your situation of course.
I never said that you did.

After hurricane katrina my neighborhood was surrounded by N.O. refugees living in apartment complexes located nearby our house.

    Crime rate rocketed. Burglaries mostly.

    We moved.

    Is moving easy?

No, especially not when you spent 24 years living in and improving your home.

But, we weren't about to live in a crime zone (if you will) because moving is difficult in a number of categories.

It was as it turned out the best move we ever made.

We live in a neighborhood (out in the country) with virtually no crime and no anxiety about be burglarized or worse...

Staying and living in a crime zone is a choice.........

You obviously had the financial wherewithal to move. I know of some folks who don't.
