Austinites heard walking South by Southwest. When Bernie gets in he's going to buy me one of these and those ones too. Not me says another I pay my own way.I'm gonna get one of everything with my savings from student loan forgiveness and free healthcare.

    Probably a good thing.

A very good thing for their bank account

Anyone that caught COVID-19 in Austin in March or April would have laid their illness at the doorstep of SXSW in a civil suit and won major $$$$

"You saw that Miami canceled the Ultra Music Festival, the largest in all Florida, just a week before, over COVID-19 concerns, why did you think your festival would be safe?"

"You were aware that the CDC has warnings that traveling to large gatherings increases the risk of spreading infectious diseases, were you not? And yet you ignored those warnings, and let tens of thousands travel to your large gathering, thereby placing their lives at risk so you could make a profit?"

    etc
    etc

By the time the lawyers were finished, SXSW would be begging to write checks

I think that sucks. Getting invited to SXSW is a big deal for lots of up and coming artists AND tech people. It's not only music that goes on there. Texas State University had an engineering exhibit I would have gone to. People are typical in loosing their minds over a hyped up minimal risk.

Couple hundred thousand people from all over the world, what are the chances that none are infected? Close to zero IMHO.

I read that the event’s insurance policy doesn’t cover disease outbreak. Lots of people are losing lots of coin on this.

In my former career, the company I worked for had a large presence at SXSW. I never went, neither tech nor up-and-coming musicians really appeal to me.

I’d imagine I’d hate it if I lived in or around Austin.

But if I did live there, I’d probably rent my house out for an ungodly amount of money, using the proceeds to go on vacation for the duration. So maybe I’d like it LOL

The Long Beach Grand Prix was held close to where I lived in Belmont Shore. We lived there for 12 years and absolutely hated the GP.

As if the crowds weren’t bad enough...
All the local places had special “GP” pricing that was at least double the ordinary price.

Not to mention the homeless bums, thieves and panhandlers that basically were my neighbors the rest of the year.

    Eff that state

what? What did they try to pull? My love of schadenfreude demands more!
Several years ago the COA tried to hit up SXSW for something like 8x what they were originally paying the city for municipal OT, fees, street closures etc. the COA puffed up and told SXSW that this was not up for negotiation.

SXSW said “ ok, we will move to San Antonio.
COA immediately folded, dropped to their knees , and proceeded to suck SXSW cock until SXSW accepted their apology.
