Here is our current patient & office policies regarding COVID-19 effective immediately. I also included our local hospital's treatment algorithm. I thought you might find this interesting. Sources are below. In addition, I spoke to three other Texas practices about what they are doing. You will probably see similar policies from other doctors.

Older folks are at the highest risk. Touch your hip. If you felt a 1911 that means you. Don't touch to hard, wouldn't want to break that hip. If you did break your hip I know a guy.

    The biggest changes:

We are limiting patient escorts/family to one escort if the patient is an adult or two if the patient is a minor. Additional people will be asked to wait in their car.

We are "closing" our waiting room as best as possible. All patients will go directly to a private room to complete paperwork and to be seen.

We will not be offering blankets to patients. The office will be cold. Patients should bring their own blankets or dress accordingly. Remember, we need to be able to pull your sleeve up above your elbow to start an IV.

I have a temporary crown, and the permanent one is at my dentist. I called to inform them I was on a 14-day self-quarantine after returning from a trip to Europe. They will not schedule me for an appointment until three weeks after the two-week quarantine is over. Does that sound right? I am showing absolutely no signs of having COVID-19, nor do I believe I was exposed to it...

    Sounds reasonable to me.
Because they ain't worried about you. They're worried about the rest of their clients.

There is at least one case out of China of symptoms starting 23 days after exposure. That may be why they're doing that.

Curious question. Why the cold? One source I read claimed this virus didn’t survive long in warm climates.
Because our surgical gowns are hot. We sometimes turn on fans to keep us cool during procedures but the portable fans we have would be difficult to thoroughly disinfect so I've removed them. I'd rather patients wear a sweatshirt than us be sweating all day.

Australia is in the middle of their summer right now, and they’re grappling with COVID as much as everyone else.

    And Australia is freaking HOT
