I have a new pistol being delivered to my LGS today that I ordered about a week ago. I have heard talk about it taking a long time to get the approval from the ATF. Are there excessive delays to get approvals for firearms transactions?

While gun and ammo sales have skyrocketed over the past couple of weeks or so, I have not heard anything about delays with NICS. I suppose though that the system could be getting overloaded at times with some small delays in there but that is just a guess.

My bad, yes I am referring to the NICS background checks. I do not have a LTC so I have to have the check done. I have heard rumors that with all the gun purchases going on it has been difficult to get the check done in a timely manner causing delays.

A couple of weekends back I bought a new rifle and no on the spot background check due to having LTC. The next day bought a used High Standard from a dealer, this was an FFL to FFL transfer so no check done.

The best source to answer your question is someone who works at a store and sees those throughout the day.

I think you could possibly experience a delay. A You Tube video posted yesterday by a gun shop in Nevada, said they had begun to experience up to a two day delay getting through. Of course, that was Nevada but I’m guessing that one phone bank probably serves the entire U.S.

Just bought a used pointman 9 today. No hassles, wait was 10 to 15 minutes. Sorry but no pics, I'm phone and computer intolerant .

I bought a .22 rifle at Academy about a year ago. It was their "Hot Deal" and it was a great price. I'm spite of being an LTC holder, they did the background check, the electronic form, and it took about 45 minutes for two employees to complete the process. Then, one of them walked me to the cashier and held the firearm, and waited in line with me, until the cashier handed me the receipt. Then, I was handed the box. Kind of mind-boggling.

At Academy. Tuesday, and the gun counter was packed. This should make a nice little .22lr rabbit gun.

Some of the people who work behind the gun counter can barely read. Of course they have to double and triple check things. The rest is due to too many lawyers.

Some FFLs are reporting delays do to the surge in buying. Like TP, there are only so many operators available. Try to complete transaction in of hours.
