After our return from the far east in late January we had several crewmembers come down with the worst case of flu any of them have ever had or seen. Fortunately I was off at the time so no exposure by me but many insist the Covid made its rounds on the ship.

Does anyone know about immunity for those already exposed like the common flu has?

Reports are coming in from China that people are getting reinfected and the second time around it's worse. Which is why China has now closed THEIR borders.

I've heard and read that the specialist types are still questioning whether exposure to it, either with becoming ill, or just a minor exposure will build an immunity to it. I've also heard, but I don't remember where, that people with type "O" blood are not getting the symptoms to the extent some others are.

New cases aren't going to peak in the US for a couple of months. By that time we'll all know someone personally who has been badly affected. Word games, in retrospect, will seem silly. You can't see, hear, smell, or taste this bitch. You won't know if it's bitten you until it's too late. Please, for the sake of those you love, stop looking for loopholes. There are none.

We closed half a road today for "essential" stuff.
Inconvenienced a lot of pool boys and landscapers.

This is stupid. These stay at home orders have more holes than a kitchen colander.

That’s because they like making feel good useless rules, but they hate enforcing them. Enforcement could get messy.

I thought the second wave in China was from folks travelling to China and bringing it with them when they came? A very small percentage of China's overall population got this supposedly, so if it was re-introduced, there are still over a billion people there who haven't had it yet.

I’ll still take it over some idiot politician going full Wuhan though.

Perfect world we’d isolate those most susceptible and carry on.

Who knows WTF is going on in China. Until a majority of western journalists were expelled last week, those journalists were reporting the only people ‘approved’ for a test were foreigners arriving into the country. Can’t report numbers that don’t exist.

By the time this is said and done, I don’t doubt the virus becomes something we have to deal with annually. That’s an on-going, permanent cost to each and every country in the world where it’s present. Some years, the respiratory infection will be imperceptible, other years it’ll be decimating.

And just like polio, and other infectious diseases, countries will have to decide just how much value they get from allowing travel to and from high risk areas.

America will learn how to fight it and how to deal with it, and how to treat the diseases it causes, and we’ll do it better than anywhere else in the world. But believing the virus will be eradicated is like believing in the Easter Bunny. And China’s reported numbers.

There also appears to be a link between COVID-19 susceptibility and hypertension (high blood pressure.) That's because there is a "known association between angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and SARS-CoV-2." I suspect many here may have hypertension based on some of the over-the-top posts. ;-)

In any case, hypertension is commonly treated with ACE inhibitors, but there are mixed opinions about whether these medications have an effect on the virus and its spread.
