Hell with the N95's, if I was working in a hospital I would rather have a PAPR. Of course, my beard is another reason.
I was masked up working in a hotel housing a bunch of quarantining patients ( probably Louisiana fleeing idiots) so I decided to mask and glove up. Then my boss showed up to survey something so I had to don my arc flash apparel for a certain task.

I started having Army flashbacks of wearing MOPP gear and mask.

    I'd rather catch the Covid.

It depends on the types of masks.

An N95 does protect the wearer as well.
This guy had blue shop towel mask tested by an expert also who compares them to other masks. Says they are pressed cellulose, and the business insider article I linked upthread got the type of fabric they actually are, wrong, that it’s not polyester.

You can get about half of the protection a N95 gives, it seems. Maybe?

If it doesn’t seal then No but it’s better than nothing. It will give some protection. The whole mask thing is mostly so you don’t touch your face while out and about.

I’m going to order some latex tubing to cut a strip to catch the gaps on the sides of my nose, and then I will try latex strips for ties (cutting up a flat physical therapy theraband exercise band to see if I can get my mask to seal.

I am just kind of seeing if I can solve the problem and getting a prepper mindset for finding solutions for future, more dangerous similar problems. Or if COVID19 mutates or whatever. It’s satisfying to do so.

    I've seen these comments.

I was only talking about the difference between surgical type masks that most have, versus an actual N95 rated mask.

A strip of malleable metal across the nose gives the best nasal seal.

People who don't routinely wear masks are going to touch their faces like crazy when they put them on. You have to get used to not adjusting them or touching them.

I have a strip of metal in my cloth mask and when I breathe, it still fogs up glasses I might wear.

A metal strip in the mask isn’t good enough for sealing a mask to my face, anyways.

or maybe I need stronger metal?

I have considered the metal strip from coffee bags, and recently discovered that the wire that comes holding my green leaf lettuce together looks pretty good.

my current mask used a pipe cleaner. Should I upgrade?

Husband has surgical masks I can use. He gets one every day and brings it home. He works in a hospital but is not in a high infection area.

I just tested the Kimberly-Clark duckbill surgical mask I have on hand and no matter how hard I try to form the metal, it fogs up glasses, so it doesn’t make a seal.

For a very effective mask: Take a plastic bag, put on your noggin, extend the bag down to your shoulders and then tightly tie a bungi cord around the bag.

After 5 or so minutes ye'll have nuttin to worry about.....
Effective masks are, of course, breathable. But I’m sure you knew that so: Hahahaha that was terribly funny *slaps knee a couple of times*.

My nephew just told me one can check masks by wearing one and blowing through it to try to blow out a match or candle, etc. He said if you can blow through it, it's not a good mask. Oh well.

That type of mask is only good to help prevent you from spreading anything.

My son just got lab results saying his neutrophils levels had dipped low. He takes an immunosuppressive medication to address a chronic autoimmune condition.

As I mentioned in another thread, we have two immunocompromised at home. Getting it would be bad. That's primarily why I am when I must go out.

Okay those would be good reasons. Maybe I didn't see the posts earlier. I'm going to gripe about people pushing hysteria by wearing masks, but I hope it's clear that it doesn't include your families.

I'm just staying home, for the most part, although I have gone and picked up food.
    I haven't worn a mask yet.

My GF wears an N95 mask when she goes to the store, but that's because I'm over 60, I've had heart failure, I have high blood pressure, and pre-diabetes.

    No it is not.
The media and the experts have both admitted by now that was all a total lie to keep the sheep from hoarding them. I can't BELIEVE anyone ever believed that line of crap even for a second.
