I like black-eye peas cooked with a ham bone, and served with fresh made cornbread!
No mention of a bottle of Tabasco peppers for the vinegar!

What's best on ham steaks - mustard or jelly? I occasionally go back and forth but have basically settled on grape jelly.
Growing up there was only one jelly and that was Welch's Concord Grape. At some point I just stopped eating grape jelly. I never ate a PB&J sammich until about 15 years ao when I tried it with cherry preserves. Put a bottle of Welch's grape juice in front of me & its gone.

A buddy of mine says his dad put grape jelly on roast beef. I was also surprised by people eating grape jelly on a sausage & biscuit.

Many years ago, once Granny stopped making jellies and preserves, we started using a brand called Blackburn's from Jefferson Texas. Several of the grocery stores around Palestine and Elkhart carry it. Best jelly and preserves I have had, barring homemade!

That bottle brings back memories. My dad used to use that all the time when I was little. Forgot all about it. Thanks!
That bottle was a normal condiment on our table for many years.
One thing I miss about my grandmother, was her and my aunts canning all the time. She would can just about anything that my grandfather grew in the garden. One thing she canned was chow chow. That was some good stuff the throw a little onto your bowl of pinto beans and cornbread. My Aunt Bonnie would make spicy chow chow, and keep a couple of jars back for me. loved that stuff!

I have one jar of my grandmother's fig preserves. She put it up in ~1968. I wonder if it's still good?
I wonder! I know we were still eating canned vegetables several years later after they were put up in the cellar after she canned them.

My Granny did a mixture of fig and strawberry preserves. That was awesome on some fresh out of the oven biscuits!
