Well you're not close to me and I'm not familiar with that model, but if it has no spark the battery would be the first suspect. Modern electronic ignitions are very fussy about having enough voltage; check your battery with a volt meter and if it isn't putting out 13.5 volts then get a new one. Also, check the fuses and relays to make sure there's not one pertaining to ignition that is blown. Plugs are also cheap to replace if there's any doubt about them. Make sure plug wires are in good shape also. If those things don't work, then you'll be looking at the coil(s) next. Coils don't go bad very often but they can crack and short out. You can test them with an ohm meter but I don't have the specs for Yamaha coils.

    Good luck!

Sorry, no - the jap bike manufacturers are notorious for making short-run models, changing stuff every year, and not supporting the parts for older bikes. If the Yamaha dealer can't order the parts, then Ebay is about your only hope. That's one reason why you got it cheap.

Try Houston Cycle Salvage on Red Bluff in Pasadena. Phone # 713-472-0020. If Tigger doesn't have the parts, he can usually get them.

You can also try calling Motorcycles Unlimited (281) 444-0545 ask for Patrick and tell him John sent you. If he can't get that bike running nobody can.

I have learned the hard way that the only thing cheap about a non-running motorcycle is the sales price. Most that I have come across need the same type of work you're doing, plus tires, plus brakes, plus battery, plus fluids, plus cables and wiring, plus fork seals, plus bearings......that's a lot of "plusses." LOL
