Ive owned a Glock 19 for about a month. It rules.

Next, I want a rifle. Specifically I want a wooden looking, bolt action one-at-a-time style shooter. That old WW2 look. Quick google search, the Mauser, or Carcano (dont want a carcano because of the whole Oswald connotation.)

I don't know a ton about guns, but Im slowly learning. What do you guys suggest in terms of the style, price, caliber etc?

    THANKS!

I'd normally say 10/22 since everyone needs at least one10/22 but since you want a bolt action, a Savage or Ruger American in .22 LR.

If you'd rather have a center fire caliber, .223 or .308.

    Out here by the lake!
If you are that set on a bolt gun find yourself a nice clean pre 64 Winchester in a caliber that is common. Someone once said only accurate rifles are interesting! With that a pre 64 is based on a Mauser action(military), should not be as beat up & abused as a miltary rifle & will hold it value better +the winchester name collectability.

If you want to enjoy shooting a bolt action, get a Ruger or a Savage. If you just want to make noise and feel it two days later, get a milsurp.

    Strictly speaking bolt actions.

Classic American rifles would be a bolt action 30-06 and lever action 30-30.

Other bolt gun calibers to consider would be .270, .243, .308, and .223.

    I think a nice Springfield M1903 30-06 would be a good start.

I have a sporterized surplus one my dad bought in the early 1960s that has a cut out for a Pedersen device.

The first parameter is how much do you want to spend. For under $500 there are lots of options but mostly synthetic stock. Like several have said get a .22 they are cheap to shoot. For all round classic caliber it would be 30-06. Lever guns are fun too. If you want a classic it will most likely run you upwards of $1,000
